This has now been fixed/added to the main game Version 5.1.4
and you no longer need this to be done

Ill keep this up thoguh.

Thx for using this Guide
Example
Step 1
This is a mod in the sense its a modification, specially in the config file.

  1. Launch the game and load in

  2. once in go to settings and set DLSS to on

  3. and pick any DLSS/DLAA preset
    Once applied close the game.

      -
Step 2
  1. Go to the game settings file - done by:
Open a windows folder and type at the top in the address bar %appdata%\Fatshark\Vermintide 2

  2. Next find and open user_settings.config or user_settings in any text editor

  3. in the text editor press and hold CTRL+F and type sharpen_enabled

  4. Replace sharpen_enabled = false to sharpen_enabled = true

  5. Save the file by pressing and holding CTRL+S or by manually pressing the save icon
      -
Step 3
  1. Boot up and load into the game

  2. Once loaded, Open the settings and go to Video and Don't change anything yet, next press ESC on the keyboard, Press Discard Changes so that the game doesn't reset the Sharpness Filter we just changed.

-Note: You do not need to do the Discard Changes on every game/map load.
if you ever open your settings and go to Video at that point you'll need/Have to press ESC and press Discard Changes each time, and then you will be able to change any Video settings.

-but Otherwise, loading a map needs no extra input for the mod to keep working, Once the mod is set up, set and forget essentially

  3. After that you are free to change any DLSS setting without it resetting the Sharpness Filter.
    Side Note
If you turn off DLSS and turn it back on, the Sharpness Filter will be reset to OFF and you'll need to do Step 1 and Step 2 again

if you did everything right and it all worked well, you will know its working straight away from how sharp the game looks as well as the Sharpness Filter in settings saying "On/On"

    -

if you see this(image below), the fix/mod is still working
Thanks
Thank you and enjoy having DLSS/DLAA in a usable form :]

Disclaimer: Unsure if there is any effect/problems(Graphically) caused by forcing on the Sharpness Filter with DLSS, I would guess no as its a filter, probably a layer on top of DLSS? if you run in to issue you can always turn off the Sharpness Filter again(simply done by turning DLSS on and off again)

Send the Rats my Regards :>

the Fact you need a mod to fix something that prevents older gen pc players from playing the game is kinda sad, and shows how half baked this update really was.

Turns out in Comments there is a 1000 Character limit haaha this will be in 3 parts
GeneralDodoSeven  [author] 28 Oct, 2023 @ 10:26pm
Part1
The before/after discarding video settings step, think of it as a glitch, once you change the Sharpness Filter to On in the config file, it will stay like that until the setting/related setting in the game is changed.

Before pressing Discard Changes you'll see it says Off/ On , but that's a visual glitch, if you changed it in the config, it will still currently be On, the game is trying to auto change the Config to Off (there is probably some coding trigger to change the setting if DLSS is on or something.)

if you don't Discard Changes and just Apply Changes you'll see it re-apply's the Filter to Off and it will be blurry again (if the settings is changed by mistake and if you have the file as read only , all you should need to do is restart the game, no need to do the steps again as the settings shouldn't be able to change)

Part2
Side Note: in case of a misunderstanding: you do not need to do the Discard Changes on every game/map load, you only need to do Discard Changes if you go into the video settings, other wise it will always be On until setting/related setting is changed.
(that's kind of an error on my part, I did note this in step 3, I just need to explain it better, I tried to reword it but I think I need to reword it even more better, sorry for that.)

As for Read Only you can totally do that, I thought about adding it here but decided not to, to keep it more easy, and its not fully needed.
Read only does sadly bring in its own issue(s) with settings saving, as in, if I remember correctly, with Read Only, the settings you changed will not be saved on the next game boot up, but if you plan on not changing settings this is a none issue, and can probably a good idea.

Part3
While Read only is Off(Default), you are still able to change settings and have it Saved, and in future some one following this Guide might forget they changed it to Read Only, or might not fully know what it means and have problems with settings not saving/other, didn't want to cause issue down the line for people.
but if you know what you are doing you are totally free to do so :]

Sorry for the long text wall haha, if I was wrong in something feel free to correct me.
But otherwise

I hope this helps and clears up the question you had :thecathead:
Happy Rat-ing
Question Mark Man 28 Oct, 2023 @ 11:55am
Correct me if I'm wrong here, can you not just set user_settings to read only after setting sharpness filter to true? It's what I did, I do see ON -ON- in my settings, however I also do NOT see any visual difference loading into a map before/after discarding video settings (image stays sharp/unblurred)

thx it works great!!!

Truue, there is probably some Behind the scenes of finalizing an update, maybe?
or maybe they're trying to give us more then just an option fix??
time will only tell haha.

I think , normally in other games DLSS/DLAA has its own 'in built' sharping Filter so they disable it when you have DLSS on in this game? I could be wrong though.
But even then, this game is so Soft with the normal TAA it has, when you have the sharpness off, and still a bit soft with it on.

Enjoy the Clarity :empirecross: Bless Sigmar! for our sight :wcbsigmar:
