Icewind Dale EE: Isolating Yxunomei
Por Sysgen
According to those in the know so to speak, the final battle in Dragon's Eye with Yxunomei is the hardest battle within this magnificently constructed strategic masterpiece.

This guide will demonstrate how to isolate Yxunomei from her minions and make this tough battle a cake walk. What is penned here is just one approach. There is an option to lower the difficulty to either normal or easy. My play through is on core rules and I adamantly refuse to lower the difficulty slider. The challenge with games like Icewind Dale: EE is to figure it out and so having extraordinary difficulty completing this battle I indeed figured out a solution albeit a bit unorthodox.

My Solution
Cast invisible on your party except one which I will refer to here as the lure.

Before proceeding rest again make sure you cleaned everything out before the final room or the game will not let you rest consecutively. By resting again your mage / sorcerer now has another set of invisibility spells.

Place the lure just outside of the door that is locked when you speak with Yxunomei's or when events trigger. Once events trigger three mages will materialize in the second room. The lure should probably be about mid room to avoid getting hit with a charm spell rendering the lure out of your control. Using this strategy you will most not likely get to talk with the Little Girl which is OK and will not break the game.

All of your invisible minions should now be at the lower left of the final room. Make sure you can see the Yuan-ti Elite with the red circle on the right. Have your thief set the trap in the lower left corner and without triggering any dialog. Your thief will materialize thus setting off the chain of events. After the thief sets the trap cast invisible again to avoid drawing the attention of Yxunomei or her minions.

After setting the trap and once events are in motion, lure Yxunomei's minions as far away as possible. All of her minions will follow and all will be locked out of the rooms where you will fight Yxunomei. Once that door is locked and your lure is far enough away attack Yxunomei. You have time since invisibility does not expire. Save all of your +2 arrows and bolts for this fight. As for her other weaknesses, acid works and though Yxunomei apparently is strong versus fire minute meteors work as well as do other spells.

Your lure will die however as I'm writing I'm thinking to have your lure, after attracting Yxunomei's minions, lock herself behind the farthest door closest to the floor entrance. I'm not sure how this will affect Yxunomei's minions but you can experiment to try and save the lure from dying. If your lure dies I would not use an Elf for the lure as Elves require resurrection which is costs a king's ransom.

After defeating Yxunomei you should find her minions scattered about. Find them and terminate as I imagine those Yuan-ti Elites and mages are good for X.P..

Enjoy the rest of this magnificent RPG.

On my second run through the game played a much more robust party than the one I posted above which @Zotliatlicor rightly points out was very squishy. Mind you on my my first run I basically either ignored or was unaware of class strengths. Second run Dwarf Defender as a tank was easily able to absorb any melee attack from Yxunomei. Still, guide is good if you're in a pinch and can spawn a trap.

I have own remedy, pretty munchkin one.
- Go to her room with all party
After triggered talk, move to her a bit, like for 3 feets. Moving from doors probably saves me from spawned foes behind the doors. Otherwise they need care and fight will be 1/3 times harder
- Then spam Web and Entange to the left and right zones of Yxi to disable her retinues.
Then spam AOEspells like fireballs, spikes, and so on.
Since at this stage you have like 40k gold, you can afford +3 weapon from Conlan and some more Molotovs. Give Molotov to all melee fighters to join with fireballs for greater fun.

-Yxi will cast 3-4 cleric spells in a row. Nice to have a +2 ammo in a warrior class hands to interrupt her.
Fun fact, Ranger-Archer with +2 arrows will solo kill her during these 4 casts.

Otherwise 2+ melees with 2+ weps and likely strength+heroic potions will surely kill her.

With that tactic you dont need to move more than 2 feets, hence it is not necessary to disarm traps, just reveal them with spell. But ofc for QoL with thief nice to disarm all traps.

@Zotliatlicor; Thank you for the contribution. As far as stats and being "squishy"; selecting stats is a matter of perspective. Constitution has a range of numbers as do all stats. How mundane to have to always use a constitution of 16+. Go out on a limb and mix things up. It is an adventure after all.

Only one member of your party has con 16 and thus HP bonus, and this makes your party very squishy. I do not understand why you have Con 13 on your first fighter the Wizard Slayer. Is it part of a Challenge? Just having con 16 on everyone would make them last longer in any fight.

I like having a Sorceror AND a regular mage to learn all the scrolls. My Favorite is Berserker 4 / Dual to Mage. Debuffing is how i do this fight. After Greater Malison and Slow, with summons, and ganging up on the though enemies one at a time, they go down. I played on Core first time i played this game and then harder difficulties until Insane now.

I use my Thief or Ranger to scout. Primarily my Thief though to also detect traps. Dropping loot as a marker is a good idea.

Sounds like a good guide

When I played this originally I often would send an invisible thief in to scout out areas Drop loot as a marker to show roughly where the main enemy was. Then allow my mages or cleric to target that area with their fireball or spells and having fighters with ranged weapons guarding to attack any enemy coming our way.
