Seriously, if you can't kill these guys then you need some serious work on your skills. Just spam left click or some ♥♥♥♥.
Grenadier/Highlander
Step 1: Break Defense
Step 2: Spam Left Click

OPTIONAL: Break defense twice and just stab him on the ground.
Officer
Step 1: Break Defense
Step 2: Stab him in the face
Light Infantry
Step 1: Counter Attack
Jaeger
Step 1: Disarm
Step 2: Spam left click

NOTE: If you happen to have someone attack you after disarming a Jaeger, shoot them in the face or kill the Jaeger near a wall or ocean.
Conclusion
Now, go forth and destroy any enemy that is in your way, because screw stealth and this game's combat is as easy as clicking and pressing E once in a while! Oh wait...

Or just do what I do... Rope dart to ground the enemy, then ground execution. Works on every enemy type as a 1 hit 1 kill. Best part is that using rope dart while on the ground doesnt consume them

Some games are better with a controller's analog input - primarily racing and games like flight sims or space sims (sometimes. There are still space-flight games that are better with mouse and keyboard... depending on exactly what you're doing...

Assassin's creed games are not among these, unless this game is a drastic departure from the previous (and it's not) it's pretty much the same. Different types of movement in games naturally benefits from one OR the other.

I love how simple the combat is, but you still can die if you are surrounded by 100 officers.

The reason this guide is so short is because this game's combat is EXTREMELY easy.

I know all this already all you need to do is mix up your attacks and you'll figure it out
