"A pressure relief system valve was designed for the car to reduce the strain imposed on the intake system.
The particular system in use is often referred to as a blow-off valve. This system uses a spring applying a preload to prevent pressure relief from occurring until the plenum has reached a pressure of 5 psi of positive pressure. A differential equation was derived for finding a plot of
pressure relief versus time 𝑡, and spring travel 𝑥, with a linear and natural exponential piecewise function being used to model the backfiring event, but unfortunately could not be solved in the Laplace domain in time for this report. It was based on the Reynolds Transport Theorem and, of course, vibrations. This would have been ideal as it would have allowed for the same pressures experienced by the intake system with the pressure relief system installed to be tested."
