At the beginning I would recommend re-rolling the dice until you have at least 7 points.

Those 7 points should be distributed between str, agi and melee weapons. (try to get a 3 or 4 in melee ).

Crafting: you have 3 options. (if i am not wrong you should need a 3 to be abel to craft a canteen)
1. get lucky and obtain some crafting gloves (craft +3)
2. train 3 times (- those points in crafting you start with)
3. pay 50 gold to buy the recipe, after talking to the physician

the canteen allows you to replenish stamina and more importantly your fatique.
( that means more training)
you can buy 7 leather and 5 cloth at the trader. (after the next story event the trader will have it again)

Now you should practice until str and agi are at 7, thats the max. (you can raise those stats again after the next story event and you should always try to max those 2 stats)

if you have some time left ....well its up to you^^ ( but remember you enter the battle with your current fatique lvl)

Now get a shield^^ it gives you a greater chance to survive + you can shieldbash your oponents, remove some stamina, knock them down (remove all stamina) and (or) stun them as well.

Have fun

@Kulture he's referring to rolling random. "HWR" difficulty means when you die you get XP to that profile, the more levels you have the more points you'll get for custom builds to start.

What do you mean by re-rolling the dice at the beginning? My starting points never changes from 50

Sure you craft it with a alchemist's tools and you need a waterskin (cost 4 leather to craft or you get lucky and find one in the store) and a medicine + a crafting skill of 8

Hello, do you know how to get potent medicine at the beginning of the game? I forgot how to get it. That's the last thing left to save my friend.

@ ironside12 well it depends
1. high str gives you also a high resist against shieldbashes^^
2. many weapons have abilitys that increase your dps in proportion to your strength.
3. shieldbashing key oponents in a fight can be a really good way to take down, or to reduce the stamina of dangerous oponents.
4. it helps you to hit (if you manage a stun) even the strongest enemys.

@ San a flail or a 1 hand weapon with around 7 - 8 dmg ^^

I find it odd that you have a focus on strength, whilst I respect that it's good for inventory and shielf bashes (which are unabalanced as it is), the ability to have high stamina and dodge all over the show alongside avoiding fatigue I find to be just as, if not more, powerful.

Nice.
What weapon type do you recommend using?
