Total War: Rome II released on the 3rd of September 2013, 10 years ago. The rest is history, but as is the case with most Total War games - the history is not usually allowed to rest. Rome II continues to be both a popular and much hated game, and mods are still being made and planned for this massive title, which itself was expanded upon internally as late as 2018.

As you're probably able to tell from the length of this video, there is a lot one can say about Rome 2, whether we're talking before, during, or after release. Perhaps more than any other Total War game, Rome 2's history and present is a multifaceted one. It's gone from being universally hated and despised, to arguably becoming the most popular historical Total War of all time, and both the advent of a new developer team on the part of Creative Assembly, and the great efforts of modders have jointly come to the game's rescue.

The Rome 2 of 2023 is not the Rome 2 of 2013, nor is it the Rome 2 of 2014, when the initial support for the game ended. So is Total War Rome 2 worth it in 2023? Was it ever worth it? This video explores every facet of Rome 2 and its journey, whether we're talking pre-release trailers, PC Gamer magazine articles, post-launch worries and finally, new campaign packs and even the one mod to rule them all; DEI.

I hope you enjoy this review of Rome 2 in 2023 - ten years after launch - as an enormous deal of work has gone into making this video the best it can be.
