How to play Killer Queen Black Online After Server Shutdown
By Strumstar
Copied directly from the Steam Discussion Post by a dev. Again I didn't come up with any of this info, just re-posting here in the guides for posterity and in the hopes it will help out someone looking to play this wonderful game online again with people.

How to Play Online Post Server Shutdown
Online play workaround - KQB Underground Steam Branch
https://liquidbit.com/kqb-underground/

(quoted from link)

LIQUID BIT DEVS PRESENT THE ‘KQB UNDERGROUND STEAM BRANCH’

Players who have the game in their Steam library can connect and play together! Just like a dirty chimney, it’s a little rough, but that’s never stopped Santa. This isn’t an official release, it’s a little janky, but you can set your display name, spectate, and run custom matches!

HERE’S HOW FROM MIKE:
This is an experimental build of Killer Queen Black that allows for online play without KQB Online Services!

To gain access, right-click on Killer Queen Black in your Steam Library and click Properties

Head over to the “Betas” tab

Type in the code “longlivethequeen”

Click Check Code, and that’s it!

Steam should download the new branch. Everyone who wants to play together needs to have this branch downloaded!

To start a server, open up the game in Steam, and open the dev console with `/~ on your keyboard.

Type startserver 0, this will start a server on the default port (currently 5000). Replace 0 with

your own port number if you wish. Press Enter to start the server

Now: to connect to a server, Killer Queen Black in Steam. Once in the Main Menu,

hit “~/`” on your keyboard to open the dev console and type: joinserver ipaddress port and hit enter.

ipaddress should be the IP address the server is running on, and the default port is 5000.

That’s it! *Make sure to open the port in your firewall settings/and set up portforwarding in your router.

Before joining, I recommend setting a display name (you only have to do this once). In the dev console type: setdisplayname YourName

If you want to join as a spectator, enter SetSpectating true in the dev console. false will turn this back off.

Useful dev commands:

`/~ : Opens the dev console

JoinServer ipaddr port: Joins a server. A port of 0 will use the default port 5000

StartServer port: Starts a server on the specified port. A port of 0 will use the default port 5000

SetSpectating true/false: Setting this to true will cause you to be a spectator of the next server you join

disconnect: Disconnects from a server

Useful command line arguments you can add to KQB in Steam:

— spectator: game will connect as a spectator

— start-server port: The game launches as a server with the specified port number

– batchmode -nographics: the game will launch in a headless mode without any graphics

Tip:

You can start a dedicated server with no players by adding these command line arguments in Steam:

–start-server 5000 –spectator -batchmode -nographics

If the server is ran as dedicated, the first person who connects gets to control the custom match (set rules, start the game, etc)

If this person disconnects, the next person to reconnect will gain controls. Sorry I know this is jank but CM wasn’t designed for this.

Known issues:

– Avatar icons are busted

– Sound plays when running dedicated server

– Probably a bunch of other stuff.

glhf hit me up on Discord if you have any q’s

What if we are on EU keyboards and want to open the console?
