yes there are very nice things that can be added. it would be good if they increase the modding support so that even if they don't add it themselves, someone will mod it.

Yeah it's really good too. Spacecraft have orbital mechanics, awesome warp bubbles, etc. I just hope they add optional fuel mechanics and stuff someday, I heard something about that being planned and I think that would be reaally neat.
