DLSS Mod

2025 update: new DLSS4 with latest preset works too!

2024 update: use DLSSTweaks method mentioned in the comments (thanks to Rick Grimes).

Download this mod from Nexus:
https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/196

Download the latest DLSS DLL from Techpowerup:
https://www.techpowerup.com/download/nvidia-dlss-dll/

Unpack everything to this path:
Steam\steamapps\common\The Outer Worlds Spacer's Choice\Indiana\Binaries\Win64

Now enable FSR in the game, which is now enabling DLSS with the same quality (or performance) setting.

To be extra sure you have DLSS and not FSR, use this guide from PCGamer:
https://www.pcgamer.com/nvidia-dlss-indicator/
You then should see info in bottom left corner.

For Epic Games Store users: this guide should still work, just be sure to put the files in the folder with Indiana-Win64-Shipping.exe

If you use Preset K, the shimmering on grass goes away completely and looks far better than Preset F

Thanks for the reply. Since I made my last comment I noticed FSR2 @ Quality was indeed giving a pleasant 10-20 FPS boost over no upscaling at all, so I started using that.

DLSS testing result: I tried DLSS 310.3.0.0 (latest) + FSRBridge + DLSSTweaks at F (and C) presets and performance seems identical to FSR2 @ "Quality". (DLSS is indeed active according to Nvidia corner indicator and Special K GUI.) Image quality may be better than FSR2 but I am not likely to notice. Unless I overlooked something it seems sticking to built-in FSR2 is OK in my case.

Better upscaling tech, less ghosting, more performance. The Spacer's Choice edition is quite bad performance-wise compared to original, so we do what we gotta do to claw it back

My 3080 does well enough at 1440p without FSR, is there any reason to try adding DLSS here? Or is it only if you're needing more performance?

Like do I still need the existing original dll file? If so where do I put it now?

How does dlsstweaks implementation work step by step?

I'm confused because I'm getting a black screen when turning on dlss...

I'm not sure you can enable that. DLSS swap copies settings from the game's menu, and there's no "FSR AA" where the scaling is 100%.

How do we enable DLAA? Trying to override it with nvidia inspector doesn't work. DLSS overlay shows it's rendering at lower resolution no matter what I try.

I'm using the Epic Store version and with DLSS4, Preset K and with frame gen from the Lossless Scaling app here on the steam store, this game runs like a charm on ultra :D

Just in case someone else has this issue - my game was crashing on startup with the latest DLSSTweaks that uses dxgi.dll to load. It worked after I renamed it to xinput1_3.dll.
