JAMES LAWRENCE
Captain James Lawrence was born in Manchester, England. As a young man, he sought a quiet life in London but was irresistibly drawn to the call of the waves. His journey into a life of adventure and piracy began when he joined the crew of an English ship, setting sail on the high seas.

Not long into their voyage, Lawrence's ship fell prey to pirates, and they willingly surrendered to their new captors, eager to escape the cruelty of their original captain. It was during this time that Lawrence encountered pirate captain John North, who became Lawrence's mentor and close friend. Despite North's rugged appearance, he possessed a keen intelligence and shrewdness that endeared him to Lawrence.

Under North's leadership, Lawrence's love for England faded, replaced by an insatiable appetite for adventure on the open sea. North recognized Lawrence's talents as a navigator and entrusted him with the ship's charts and helm, while he focused on amassing their fortune. Together, they navigated treacherous waters, faced numerous challenges, and forged a formidable partnership.

As the years passed, North's obsession with the movements of the English Navy grew to the point of madness. He believed that a colossal treasure awaited them aboard a ship named the Heerlijkheid, part of the Dutch East India Company's elite and private fleet. North's grandiose plans for their future wealth included living as proper English gentlemen in Piccadilly.

In pursuit of this treasure, Lawrence and North set sail to intercept the Heerlijkheid north of Cape Town, successfully capturing the ship after a fierce battle. However, their crew was now severely depleted. North's keen instincts led them to discover a concealed treasure hidden behind a false wall in the ship's hold—a treasure of unimaginable worth.

Aware that they could not simply sail into a major port with a Dutch ship and distribute the treasure unnoticed, Lawrence and North decided to bury it in a remote, snow-covered location far from prying eyes. Their journey to hide the treasure was perilous, involving the transportation of vast riches through harsh, icy terrain. Ultimately, they found a secure ice cavern to house their fortune, a fortress that would keep their wealth safe from any potential threats.

Their success was short-lived, as a sudden and catastrophic event unfolded. The skies darkened, and the earth trembled as a volcanic eruption, known as the Laki fissures, brought death and destruction to the land. In the midst of the chaos, Lawrence chose to return to Iceland's shores, believing it to be the safest course of action. However, the eruption took a heavy toll, and Lawrence blacked out at the helm.

When he awoke, he found himself in a remote wooden hut, being cared for by a woman named Alda Jónsdóttir. The volcanic eruption, Laki, continued to wreak havoc on the land, and the fate of the ship remained uncertain. To Lawrence's dismay, he learned that his beloved companion, John North, had not survived the cataclysmic event, leaving Lawrence alone in this unfamiliar place.

In exchange for shelter until the end of winter, Lawrence promised not only his treasure but also the meager food supplies on his ship. The townspeople, their bellies empty and their spirits dwindling, readily agreed. The ensuing winter was harsher than ever, with a starless night sky and Lawrence's ship supplies running dangerously low, testing the town's resilience.

As the bitter winter progressed, Lawrence found himself drawn to Alda, and their love blossomed amid the unforgiving conditions. Before long, Lawrence and Alda were married, and their union was blessed with the arrival of a baby girl, a beacon of hope in those dark times.

But as spring approached and the people of Skipbrot began to think of rebuilding their home, they realized they needed funds urgently to kickstart the process. The treasure Lawrence had promised became the lifeline they desperately clung to. However, as Lawrence explained that he must set sail to retrieve the treasure, the townspeople's patience waned. Accusations of deceit and intentions to flee with his new family ran rampant. Anger boiled over, leading to a tragic altercation. After the dust settled, the townspeople felt deep remorse for the devastating consequences of their actions: Alda lay lifeless.

With heavy hearts, they took the gravely wounded James Lawrence to the inn, intending to exile him once he recovered from his injuries. However, fate had different plans, as James, too, succumbed to his wounds, leaving behind only a diary for his infant daughter. The diary contained clues and directions to find the treasure, as well as his love and hopes for his daughter's future. The treasure remained hidden, waiting for her to discover it one day.
DAGNY SILVA
Dagny Silva, previously known as Dagny Silva-DeSoto, is part of a project to restore an 18th-century merchant ship located in the remote Icelandic town of Skipbrot. This ship is believed to hold a valuable treasure. Dagny and her business partner, Magnus, decided to fund the restoration project with the expectation of sharing in the potential profits from the treasure's discovery.

The situation took an unexpected turn when Magnus vanished under mysterious circumstances. The local residents of Skipbrot speculate that he might have fallen into the harbor and drowned. Dagny, on the other hand, holds a different theory. She believes that Magnus stumbled upon the treasure and made off with it, as there is no concrete evidence to support the theory that he drowned. Dagny calls on Nancy Drew to find out what happened to Magnus.

Dagny's occupation is that of a treasure hunter. She specializes in finding valuable items that have been lost or hidden over time, and she earns a portion of the proceeds when these items are recovered. However, her career in treasure hunting is not without controversy. She is said to be wanted in the United States for skimming some cash off a treasure find in the Gulf of Mexico, which might explain her preference for overseas ventures. Dagny's primary motivation in life is financial gain. She is motivated by the prospect of finding valuable treasures and securing her share of the proceeds.

Dagny is a private person who doesn't readily share personal information or build close relationships. She deflects inquiries about her past and maintains a tough exterior, rarely revealing vulnerability. When asked about her hometown, Dagny only mentions a general southern location in the United States. Dagny is divorced from her previous marriage to a woman named Alicia DeSoto. Alicia visited Dagny in Iceland for a brief period but eventually went back to the United States. No further information about the specifics of their relationship is provided.

Dagny demonstrates a practical and pragmatic approach to life. She emphasizes the importance of results and doesn't let emotions cloud her judgment. Her focus on achieving her goals can sometimes make her appear ruthless. Dagny frequently employs sarcasm and dry humor in her conversations, often making witty and sardonic remarks even in serious situations. Her humor serves as a defense mechanism and a way to cope with challenging circumstances.

After Magnus was rescued, Dagny and Magnus decided to give up their exploration rights to the ship, making it accessible to tourists throughout the year as public property under the management of Skipbrot. Initially, Dagny seemed satisfied with staying in Skipbrot, but her restlessness became noticeable after a few uneventful days. Consequently, Dagny left shortly after receiving her portion of the treasure.
GUNNAR TONNISSON
Gunnar Tonnisson, a former fisherman, now resides in his hometown of Skipbrot, Iceland. His upbringing in this charming yet remote village fostered a profound connection to the traditions and values that shaped the local culture.

Gunnar takes great pleasure in recounting tales from his days at sea. He frequently spices up the stories with some creative exaggerations. He claims that a shark once bit him, resulting in an unusual consequence: he insists he can no longer tell lies. Gunnar enjoys woodworking as one of his hobbies, however he experienced a setback when he had an accident in the woodshop, resulting in the loss of three fingers on his right hand.

For the past two years, Gunnar has opposed the annual Ancestors' Festival, an event he believes is eroding the town's cherished traditions. He resorted to disruptive actions, such as sabotaging festival preparations with fermented shark and hot tar. His actions resulted in damages totaling over 12.4 million kronur, a debt he has steadfastly refused to pay. More recently, at a town hall meeting in Skipbrot, Gunnar caused a disturbance by bringing a written petition that he claimed was intended to protect Icelandic values and the town's history. During the meeting, when Soren denied Gunnar's request to present his petition, Gunnar responded by throwing bottles at him.

Despite his gruff exterior and contentious relationship with others in Skipbrot, Gunnar maintained a strong sense of attachment to his hometown. His deep-seated belief in preserving the town's heritage and core values was evident in his passionate, if unorthodox, advocacy for the status quo.

To celebrate Gunnar's 50th birthday, he, along with his wife Esja and their daughter Edda, embarked on a family outing aboard a small dinghy. However, a sudden storm struck the southwest coast while they were out on the water. Gunnar promptly contacted the Icelandic Coast Guard using a handheld radio after the storm hit. Despite his efforts, the dinghy capsized, leaving the three of them in frigid and perilous conditions. Esja is reported to have attempted to tread water, but her husband lost sight of her. Edda managed to make it onto the capsized hull but was pronounced deceased upon the arrival of the coast guard.

The profound and lasting impact of losing his wife and daughter emotionally scarred Gunnar, making it difficult for him to cope with the immense emptiness their absence created. This pain shaped Gunnar's later reputation as a reclusive and cantankerous figure.

In the years that followed, Gunnar's grief took on various forms. He adamantly refused to go back on the water. He distanced himself from social interactions and sought refuge in the Missti Skip pub, where he became known as a solitary figure who often voiced his discontent about the changing times and the influx of tourists in the town of Skipbrot.

However, over time, Gunnar underwent a significant transformation. He began to reflect on the pain he had caused others in the town and reconciled himself with the changing landscape. He even embraced the possibility of new beginnings.

As Gunnar took on a more active role in managing the Missti Skip pub and even returned to the sea, it became clear that he was healing from his past wounds. His experiences, both tragic and transformative, shaped him into a multifaceted individual. Despite his tough exterior, he carried a profound love for Skipbrot and its cherished traditions.
ELÍSABET GRIMURSDÓTTIR
Elísabet Grimursdóttir resides in the remote Icelandic town of Skipbrot, her hometown where she was born and raised. In this town, she manages the Missti Skip pub.

Elísabet and Magnus have known each other since childhood and were in a relationship for four years. Initially, they found solace in each other during the long, harsh winters of Skipbrot. As time went on, their relationship began to deteriorate, primarily due to Magnus's growing obsession with the ship and his quest to uncover its rumored treasure. This fixation strained their relationship, leading to frequent arguments and emotional turmoil. Elísabet's voicemail messages vividly capture the emotional upheaval she endured during their breakup. She conveys feelings of betrayal, abandonment, and anger towards Magnus, expressing her frustration and the pain of feeling left behind. Despite the conflict and breakup, it's evident that Elísabet still harbors unresolved feelings for Magnus.

Elísabet yearns to explore the world and break free from the confines of her small town. She dreams of venturing beyond Skipbrot but struggles to release her grip on her familial and town responsibilities.

Elísabet was stripped of her financial duties, specifically handling the finances for the town's festival, due to a substantial financial crisis that struck the town. Elísabet had depleted the town's bank account over the past few festivals, resulting in a staggering debt of 2.5 million kronur for Skipbrot. This financial mismanagement led to her demotion, as the town urgently needed to address its financial challenges. Sore took over the financial responsibilities in an attempt to resolve the situation.

Elísabet's lineage is deeply rooted in Skipbrot's history, tracing back to Captain James Lawrence, a British sea captain who arrived in the town in 1783, promising prosperity in exchange for shelter during a difficult time. He wed Alda Jónsdóttir, a local resident, and their union gave birth to a daughter who would eventually become Elísabet's ancestor. Elísabet has taken on the responsibility of preserving her lineage's connection to the ship and its rumored riches.

In the end, Elísabet received her family's treasure, and her relationship with Magnus healed as he apologized for his past distance. They're happily together, fulfilling their dreams of traveling the world with their loyal dog, Tumi.
SOREN BERGURSSON
Soren Bergursson recently returned to Skipbrot, Iceland, after spending many years abroad.

Soren previously lived in Massachusetts and earned his doctorate in Viking history at Harvard University. His research interests revolve around Viking weaponry, particularly ceremonial and decorative sharp objects such as spears, daggers, and bows. He often scours local shipwrecks and burial sites for these artifacts, exemplifying his profound dedication to archaeology and history. Soren even has a beloved replica Viking axe called "Old Guðrún," which he uses for the unconventional purpose of knocking icicles off his roof.

Soren now works as the head of Skipbrot's Culture Center, which serves as the focal point for all things related to local history, artifacts, and cultural events. He also took charge of organizing the town's Ancestors' Festival, a major yearly celebration dedicated to showcasing Skipbrot's traditions and history.

In addition to his cultural involvement, Soren is an influential councilmember in Skipbrot. He actively engages in local government and administration, playing a crucial role in making decisions that have a significant impact on the town's affairs.

Soren was born just ten miles away from Skipbrot, and despite having lived in Skipbrot for a total of 12 years, he is still considered an outsider by many of the town's residents. This outsider status has made it difficult for Soren to integrate fully into the tight-knit community. He expresses frustration at not being fully accepted and mentions feeling isolated, even spending his birthdays alone. Additionally, during town hall meetings, Gunnar has even resorted to throwing bottles at Soren, further illustrating the extent of Soren's struggle to fit in.

Soren faced a challenging situation when he discovered that the festival was deeply in debt, with a staggering amount of 2.5 million kronur. To address this financial crisis, he made some tough decisions. First, he had to relieve Elísabet of her financial responsibilities, which, in turn, increased his own workload significantly. In a bold move, Soren decided to sell the exploration rights to the ship. He did this with the hope of securing a substantial amount of funding to not only help ease the town's financial troubles but also to support the restoration project for the ship.

It turns out that Soren had a hidden agenda for wanting the ship restored: he wanted to locate the treasure, but instead of doing it himself, he manipulated others to do the work for him. His primary motivation was securing funding for his research. To achieve his goal, Soren had been covertly following Magnus, with the intention of eventually stealing the treasure. He lured Magnus onto the ship, incapacitated him, and transported him to an isolated ice cave using a dinghy. When Soren realized that Magnus didn't possess precise knowledge of the treasure's whereabouts, he shifted his focus to Nancy.

[NOTE] The final outcome for Soren depends on what you tell Alex to do with him at the end of the game. Soren is either arrested or ordered to do community service.
MAGNUS KILJANSSON
Magnus Kiljansson lives in the secluded Icelandic town of Skipbrot, where he was both born and raised. He disappeared under mysterious circumstances, leading Dagny Silva to seek Nancy Drew's assistance in unraveling the mystery.

Prior to his disappearance, Magnus was deeply immersed in a project aimed at restoring an 18th-century merchant ship. This ship has a legendary reputation for possibly safeguarding a valuable treasure. Magnus, in collaboration with his business partner Dagny, decided to fund the restoration with the expectation of sharing any potential profits that might come from discovering this treasure.

By profession, Magnus works as a ship captain, catering to affluent private clients. However, he has never had the opportunity to captain his own vessel or chart his own course. His dream is to find the treasure and buy his own ship so he can experience the adventurous life of seasoned captains from the past.

In his free time, Magnus takes great pleasure in crafting limericks. He has authored a manuscript titled "Merman: A Study of Postmodern Masculinity through Maritime Limericks," which has surprisingly garnered the interest of a publishing company.

Magnus has a long history with Elísabet, dating back to their childhood. They were in a romantic relationship for four years, initially finding comfort in each other during the long, dark winters. However, their relationship deteriorated over time, mainly due to Magnus's growing obsession with the ship and his relentless quest to uncover the rumored treasure it carried. This obsession led to frequent arguments and emotional turmoil, ultimately resulting in their breakup.

Magnus is grappling with his father's recent death, which occurred just before he returned to work on the ship. During the funeral, his uncle mentioned a childhood nickname his father used to call him, "little Thrond," which referred to a deceitful character from old stories. This comment has triggered Magnus to reflect on the possibility that he may have a hidden inclination for deception, adding to his deep sense of loss for his father.

In the end, it is revealed that Magnus was captured and confined in a cave by Soren. Eventually, Nancy Drew locates him and manages to rescue him. Magnus apologized to Elísabet for his earlier emotional distance, and as a result, they have reconciled and are now a couple again. Magnus fulfilled his lifelong dream of owning a ship, and together with Elísabet and Tumi, they set off to travel the world.
