Hello, seems like there isn't a guide on how to get this game to run in english through Steam on the internet. There are some guides for getting other mainline games to work like that, but those methods did not work on this one for some reason so here is a way I figured out after like an hour. 🗿

(This should work on other games too, but I haven't tried it on any. Of course, you can't copy this 1:1 and will need to change some stuff to accomodate to other games.)

First off, go to https://www.thpatch.net/wiki/Touhou_Patch_Center:Download and press the gigantic Download button. It will download thcrap.zip file which contains the installer for the english patch.



After the file is downloaded, open it. Then open the file location of the game. Then drag & drop the contents of thcrap.zip file into the game's folder.


Your folder should look like something like this:


Now, open thcrap.exe


Select English, or whichever language you want:


I recommend pressing [Find Games in a Specific Folder] and finding the filepath to where the game is installed and only selecting this game. Why? I don't remember why but for some reason I wrote that not doing so can mess up some of the other touhou games if your monitor's refresh rate is higher than 60Hz on a notepad I created 2 years ago. Yeah I don't know why I wrote that nor why it messes up the other games either. Awesome 👍


Now it will ask you to create shortcuts, but we won't be needing those so feel free to uncheck all the boxes.

The patch is installed! But we don't have a way to launch the patch yet. So let's go and do that.

Now then, your game folder should be looking something like this:


We are going to rename two of the files in here.
1) Rename [game.exe] into [game_bak.exe]
(If you don't see the [.exe] at the end of the file, just name it to [game_bak].)

2) Rename [thcrap_loader.exe] into [game.exe]
(Again, if you don't see the [.exe] at the end of the file, just name it to [game].)

It should look like this:


Now open the file named [config] and in it you will see a file named [game.js]. Right click it and press Edit.


Change the last thing at the filepath from [game.exe] into [game_bak.exe]. Save and exit.
This is how it should look like once you're done:

Go to Steam and find your game. Right click on it and select [Properties]



Go to the General tab and copy and paste:

"en.js" th175

into the Launch Options at the bottom.

(If you're using another language and not English, you have to change [en] into the code of the language you're using or it won't work.)

You can launch the game now! Hopefully you did everything right and the game launches in english. Quickly go to the Manual tab to see if it's in Japanese or not. Have fun!🍻
