Background
The year is 3XXX, And I say as seriously as possible, humanity has goofed up.

An attempt at a breakthrough in cloning resulted in a massive, insectoid blob escaping from confinement alongside multiple other specimens and quickly began breeding.

Without time to act, the creatures started to birth and grow and surge, going from 20 to 2000 in weeks.

Of course, the government's first real reaction to this threat was to quarantine it and cover-up, which made sense at the time, since they had no idea how dangerous the creatures would truly be.

But after people within the quarantine area began to go missing rapidly, it was immediately clear that these things were not harmless.

Something about their presence caused other insects to grow and swell, making once-harmless centipedes, scorpions, and cockroaches expand into man-eating threats.

The government tried to fight them, but a nuclear warhead did little but kill off 99 percent, making the surviving 1 percent hide deep underground and evolve to become nearly unstoppable.

They could not be slowed down; the insects tore down the quarantine barriers and walls and expanded.

They tore down militia after militia and expanded.

They overtook village by village and expanded.

Before anyone knew it, civilization was getting rarer and rarer, and the government's desperation only rose.

Eventually, thanks to being motivated by impending doom, the government built a large space station orbiting the moon and started moving as many people as possible into it.

....Most of whom were rich people.

But they were technically still people, I suppose.

Now, maybe in a worse timeline, I would say that the insects managed to sneak onboard and munch on the moon meals.

But in a twist of good luck, they did not, and the small pocket of humanity lived in space as life on Earth descended into hell.

Before they knew it, Earth was completely overtaken by the bugs.

Eventually, the 100th president, Mike XXXX, decided that enough was enough, and the humans had to reclaim what was once ours.

So a program was developed, where people fitted with hazmat suits and weapons would descend to earth, and cull down as many as possible.

Both to ensure the growing insects do not eat everything on earth, and in hopes of eventually injuring them enough to do something.

And that is you, you are one of them, you may not live to see it, but are you willing to give your life just for a small chance to help humanity retake their home planet?
Beastiary
These things are known as hoarders, They are the first and foremost of the insects, very small and weak, but they survive because of their ability to breed via mitosis, effectively free XP.

These are cockroaches, Fairly simple, they are bigger and stronger than the hoarders, but not as common.

This specimen is known as a crawler, they are not the strongest of the insects, but they make up for it with their speed and projectiles.

This tenacious creature is known as a snapper, very fast, but if you have enough stopping power, you can kill it before you are overwhelmed.

A scorpion, it can shoot projectiles at you, albeit quite slow ones, but in a group, they begin to become an issue.

These things are called Spitters, they are very resilient and can throw crescent-shaped projectiles, These creatures separate the strong from the weak.

This is an egg carrier, they explode when dying, sending eggs flying, better hope none of them land on you.

These are referred to as ogres, they are massive, hulking creatures who can fire corrosive acid, prioritize them as a target.

The spider queen, well... we call her a queen, kinda hard to tell if any level of social hierarchy exists among those creatures, After you kill her, take her heart, it will overload your life support system, healing any injuries you may have.

That right there is the worm king.
He is a hulking centipede who might give birth to an even more hulking species of centipedes if not stopped, his heart has similar effects.

This is it, this is the empress, the mother, the highest bug above all, the source of at least 90 percent of the creatures you see here, Kill her, and you are officially a war hero.
Epilogue
Alright, that's all she (he, in my case) wrote, if you have any recommendations, let me know, see you next time I get enough brain power to write something.

10/10 feels just right when read with an Australian accent.

I actually do have a problem. In the first map, several minutes after winning and going into endless, you face a much stronger and more powerful boss, one that doesn't confine you to an area but instead keeps you moving, has a massive (no pun intended) HP pool, covers up the entire top of your screen, and walls off the left and right to force you to continually move downward whilst slowly whittling away at it's health while dodging it's attacks.

This creature was never mentioned anywhere in the bestiary.

As I only fought it once, and even then, I didn't get a good look at it, I can't describe how it looks, but I feel that you are plenty capable of seeing it yourself.

Other than that, 10/10.

its great, but a few things to point out:
1. they are not immune to radiation, as they still take damage from the radiation skill tree.
2.crawlers do not shoot projectiles.
3, and this is a personal problem, but i think the name brute doesn't fit the given specimen, since they do not get close. maybe lurkers would be more accurate, since they lurk outside of sight.
that's pretty much it. there're no conflicts between the written lore and the gameplay, especially considering that the ophidian map looks like a city floor. overall, i would rate it 9.5/10
