Cryptic alphabet decoded : all the translations
By swoo703
Have you noticed these strange characters in the Book of Ages' pages and some other places in the game?

Have you ever wondered if the texts written with them meant anything?

Well, this guide will let you know all about it!

A small history of my findings
It all started with the level "Harvest Festival" where this banner can be found right at the beginning:

When I saw this banner, I immediately thought these strange characters might mean something secret.

So, knowing that the level is called "Harvest Festival" (because that's the name given by Wormals to their annual celebration), I noticed there appeared to have two words on it and that they counted the same number of letters as "harvest" and "festival".

I then tried mentally to see if the common letters between "harvest" and "festival" (namely the "a", "v", "e", "s" and "t") corresponded to equally common pairs of characters on the banner and realised that they did.

The banner thus reads:
HARVEST FESTIVAL

With simply these two words, I now had decoded already 10 letters:
A, E, F, H, I, L, R, S, T, V.

So, I knew I was onto something with potential Easter Eggs as a reward!

From that point, I started taking notes of each new character I was coming across and trying to decipher what letter of the English alphabet it corresponded to.

Next up was still in the "Harvest Festival" level. It was this poster that appears in a couple of places:

But that wasn't of much help because I could only read:
FAFR
???I

That cooled down my enthusiasm a bit as I thought that, even without knowing the two new characters, "FAFR" couldn't possibly mean anything. And, thus, I thought that it was possible the idea of having a fully readable cryptical alphabet in the game had been scrapped during development and all I would find would be nonsensical remnants...

Anyway, I kept playing and found out that there were a massive load of these characters on the pages of the Book of Ages that allows us to travel between worlds:

As it turned out, these texts were simply generated Lorem Ipsum filler texts.

Disappointing, of course, but it allowed me to identify all the letters of the alphabet except for the
K, X and Z.

I then came back to that poster which now read:
FAFR
ODOI

After a little bit of reflection, I could see it clear! Someone in the developers' team decided to scramble the letters from:
FOOD (or FAIR)
FAIR (or FOOD)

For your information, this is what it would have looked like if the letters were placed to read "fair food":

As you can see, the two "O" next to each other in "FOOD" might have been the cause for the scrambling because one could argue that, esthetically, the visual impression is not that great.

That theory would confirm that of the idea of using this alphabet being scrapped during development.

Or was it really? 😉

Check the bottom of this guide to find out and discover great surprises left by some witty developer(s)! 😎

The full alphabet decoded
But first, here's the full alphabet used in the game's cryptic scriptures:

Good to know: on some of the texts, characters from this alphabet have been mirrored (either for esthetical reasons or just to put up a smokescreen).

Three letters from this alphabet only appear in the two last texts from this guide:
- "K" appears on both
- "X" and "Z" only appears on the very last one.

Lorem Ipsum dolor sit amet
Each time Lucky enters the Book of Ages (after defeating a boss) to travel to a new world, the same two pages are displayed:

The text on these pages reads:

Page 1

Similarly, each time Lucky arrives to a new world, these two other pages are displayed on the Book of Ages:

They read:

Page 1

DIS AT. VITAE NIBH LOREM

SODALES MASSA SIT.

However, there's nothing to understand in these texts as they clearly are the result of a lorem-ipsum random generator.

I'm not sure which one the developers have used but I suspect it could be this one (http://www.lorem-ipsum.cz/?action=generate&lang=en&par=5&start_w_lipsum=on) as this is the one with the most varied set of "pseudo-Latin" words I could find online.

And this lorem ipsum contains a good deal of unusual words for the majority of lorem-ipsum generators. For instance, most of the generators don't include words like "wisi", "hymenaeos", "rhoncus" and "nonummy".

Credits secret messages
The credits contain several small secret messages written with these strange characters:

1)
WASUP
Hey, what's up! Glad to find you here!

2)
ASRG
I have no clue what that could mean, though...

3)
WNRSER
I don't know what that means either...

4)
THIS CIRCLE
OK, true, that is a circle... But so what?

5)
LOVE
How cute. 😊

6)
JESUS
Didn't know He came in two copies...

7)
NAHTE
HAJILE
The characters are actually mirrored, here. What is written is in fact two names:
ETHAN
ELIJAH

8)
AMY

Already quite cool, uh? But wait, there's even more below! 😋

Winnie, the Puppy Doggie
In one of the final cutscenes, a surprising secret message has been left by some developer.

This is a screenshot of when the message appears during the cutscene:

The text on the frame is actually mirrored and quite blurry.

But, thankfully, the full-HD video file is easily accessible in the game's directory.

So, viewing the file called "SLT_DLC2_Outro_02.bk2", I was able to take a readable screenshot of the message here:

And here is what this strange message says:
PUPPY DOGGIE
AVORIT COLOR IS PINK.
THE BST COLOR. WINNIE
VES TO SPIN AROUND IN
CLES ALL THE TIME. SHE
CAN ONLY GO IN ONE
RECTION THIS DOG CAN
EP ALL DAY IF YOU LET

WINNIE LOVES TO SPIN
AROUND IN CIRCLES ALL THE
TIME. SHE CAN ONLY GO IN ONE
DIRECTION THIS DOG CAN
SLEEP ALL DAY IF YOU LET
HER. BE CAREFUL OR SHE'LL
PUNCH YOUR FACE IF YOU ARE
NOT PLAYING ATTENTION

Which, once removed the repetitons, gives the following:
Puppy Doggie
[Her] favorit {sic} color is pink. The b[e]st {sic} color.
Winnie loves to spin around in circles all the time.
She can only go in one direction.
This dog can sleep all day if you let her.
Be careful or she'll punch your face if you are not playing* {sic} attention

*I wonder if that is an intended pun or not... 😄

The Egg on the Easter Cake
But this is the true finding of which I am very proud:

At the end of the last cutscene before the credits start rolling, one can see the Book of Ages closing itself.

But, for two short seconds, the book's pages show two pairs of totally different pages as the ones explained above.

And here is what they say:

Pages 1 & 2
CONGRATULATIONS

Which, after a bit of cleaning, gives the following super secret message:
Congratulations
You just found a super duper secret Easter Egg in Lucky's Tale.
Guess what? This is even more special because this isn't even approved by my boss.

I mean, chances are that no one will ever find this but, just in case, I wanted to thank you for playing our game.

I am extremely proud of what our humble little studio has done with such a small team and in half the time we would need to pull this off.

It was so hard but this team is simply amazing. They are family, even the wierd {sic} ones.

Resist hate and embrace the joy, that's what we wanted to share with you all. Thank you again.

Well, mysterious developer, you were right to include this, "just in case". 😉

Your game was fun to play but this quest for hidden messages was a whole lot of fun as well!

Hope my little guide brought a smile to your face, too. 😄

Comparison with the previous game "Super Lucky's Tale"
Having now played the previous version of the game, which was then called "Super Lucky's Tale" (without the "New" adjective) – which, by the way, is still available on Steam here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/847360/Super_Luckys_Tale/ – I realise this guide I made for New Super Lucky's Tale would not be complete without a comparison between the cryptic texts found in the two games.

Because yes, as it turns out, the same alphabet was already in use in the previous game. But it was already cryptic and never explained in-game.

Some of the texts found on New SLT were already present in SLT but, more interestingly, two additional Easter Eggs can only be found in SLT! (These are shown in the next section of this guide).

More specifically, the two Easter Eggs mentioned in the previous two sections of this guide (the one about a dog named Winnie and the secret thank you message inside the book) are the only texts in common between the two games.

Which, for the latter, can only make sense because the secret message says "You just found a super duper secret Easter Egg in Lucky's Tale" and not in "New Super Lucky's Tale".

However, since it does not say "Super Lucky's Tale" either, that could even be a sign this Easter Egg dates back to the even more previous version of the game, which was a VR game called "Lucky's Tale". I don't have that version of the game and can't confirm this, though. If anyone knows, please be kind enough to share your knowledge in the comments.

That being said, this is how, these two Easter Eggs appear in Super Lucky's Tale

The book's Easter Egg appears right at the first cutscene (contrary to New SLT, where it appeared only at the very end cutscene) and reappears as well at the very end.

The dog's Easter Egg appears also right at the first cutscene but with a rather different layout and a strange headline which is absent from the New SLT's version of the text:
It's the frame at the top and, once again, the text is mirrored. Here is what it says:

WINNIH{sic} DOG IS

WINNIE LOVES TO SPIN
D IN CIRCLES ALL THE
HE CAN ONLY GO IN ONE
ECTION. THIS DOG CAN
EP ALL DAY IF YOU LET
BE CAREFUL OR SHE'LL
YOUR FACE IF YOU ARE
OT PLAYING ATTENTION

PUPPY DOGGIE

AVORIT{sic} COLOR IS PINK.
THE BST{sic} COLOR. WINNIE
VES TO SPIN AROUND IN
CLES ALL THE TIME. SHE
CAN ONLY GO IN ONE

. BE CAREFUL OR SHE'LL
YOUR FACE IF YOU ARE
NOT PLAYING ATTENTION

WINNIE LOVES TO SPIN
AROUND IN CIRCLES ALL THE
TIME. S
D
SLE
HER
PUNCH YOU
NOT PL

Which, once cleared a little, becomes:
WINNIH{sic} DOG IS

PUPPY DOGGIE
[Her] favorit (sic) color is pink. The bst (sic) color. Winnie loves to spin around in circles all the time. She can only go in one direction. This dog can sleep all day if you let her. Be careful or she'll punch your face if you are not playing attention.
The presence of this nonsensical headline with even an "H" instead of an "E" is a mystery to me but it explains all the more its absence from the New SLT's version of the text, I'd say.

Two Easter Eggs exclusive to "Super Lucky's Tale"
As said above, Super Lucky's Tale contains two exclusive secret messages which are not reused in New Super Lucky's Tale!

The first one is visible on the picture in the previous section of this guide. It's this frame, once again mirrored:

Here is what it reads:
THIS IS A HEADLINE

LOOK AT THIS. LYR[A]
WON A TROPHY. GOO[D]
FOR HER. SHE WIN[S]
SO MANY OF THESE
THINGS AND TAK[E]

Which, once cleared up, actually reads:
THIS IS A HEADLINE

Look at this. Lyra won a trophy. Good for her. She wins so many of these things and take up a whole shelf and all Lucky gets is a tiny frame for his tiny fish that was enough for about half a fishstick. I hope [he/they find(s) something]*

else to eat. They should eat these. Hotdogs. Now I want [a] hotdog.
* The text in brackets is pure invention of mine to fill in what appears to be gaps in the secret message. It's thus an educated guess as to what meaning was intended in the full secret message.

This message appears to be an amusing reference to the tiny frame at the bottom left corner of the general picture (as displayed in the previous section of this guide) where one can see Lucky having caught a tiny little fish with his small fishing rod.

The second one is visible in one of the very last cutscenes of the game:

It reads:

Page 1
HELLO THIS IS
GIBBERISH AN[D]
ITS

NOTHDGOING TO
THE DNS D DH G

DFSSDFSSX

Pages 2 and 3 (which seem to be have the same characters at the same spots, though some are more legible on page 2, while some others are more legible on page 3)
GHD TNE
DHKSJSKAW EIE I

GHD THE

JAK JSLIENBDF
DXSNA HLK FHPP
JKHFI SNF YR S

Which, once eliminated the actual gibberish, is a short secret message saying:
Hello, this is gibberish and it's nothdgoing {sic} (maybe it was meant to be "nothing"?)

One final note

Here's a final potential secret message exclusive to Super Lucky's Tale, though:
During the last boss fight and inside the cutscene that follows the fight, one can see floating pages onto which the same kind of symbols can be seen.

All seem to be copies of a single same page. Unfortunately, the text doesn't seem to be legible. However, chances are this text is only gibberish, like for the Easter Egg mentioned above.

Still, for the sake of completeness, here are the best screenshots I could get from these pages:

Just the page:

The cutscene version:

Just the page:

Now, if any sharp-eyed enthusiast is willing to take up the challenge, they're most welcome! 😉

Important update: I've added two more sections at the end of this guide, dealing with the presence of some similar and some exclusive cryptic texts in the previous version of "New Super Lucky's Tale", which was called "Super Lucky's Tale". Enjoy! :steamhappy:

Quick update to this guide: I've just corrected 4 mistakes:
1) In the text about the dog, I misread the title as being " Happy Doggie" while it actually is " Puppy Doggie"
2) Similarly, I misread "she'll punish your face" while it actually is "she'll punch your face"
3) In the last text, I didn't notice it was not " super secret Easter Egg" but " super duper secret Easter Egg"
4) Lastly, I forgot a whole paragraph from that text! This paragraph says: Resist hate and embrace the joy, that's what we wanted to share with you all. Thank you again. I feel bad forgetting that... :steamfacepalm:

Cool! Awesome, thanks! :-D

I have notifications on for any new content getting posted in the SLT / NSLT forums - I saw the one about the audio being present in those video clips you dug out of the files and shared it with the team right away, I'd be curious to know where those videos come from as well.
swoo703  [author] 10 Sep, 2023 @ 3:33am
Hopefully someone from the team will be kind enough to explain themselves... :-)

Btw, as you seem active currently on Steam, let me share here two more findings about this game that you might not have known about either:

I'm pretty much ready to bet that someone just made a font for that, it's relatively easy and I know for a fact that at least another font has been designed for the game (the cartoonish font used by all the interface) cause it's the same font that's been used in Creativerse.

The keyboard mashup idea is definitely the least likely, the vast amount of sensible data you can get out of the "translation" elsewhere definitely points at those two sequences having a precise meaning (even if they were scrambled / mistyped as in your ASRG => STAR example)
swoo703  [author] 10 Sep, 2023 @ 3:16am
Hahaha! Thank you for scratching your head with me about this. ^^

For "ASRG", while your idea is pretty convincing, I have another theory: consider the "G" was supposed to be a "T" (the two keys are right next to each other) and you end up with "ASRT", which is an anagram for "STAR", which is precisely the drawing associated with "ASRG". ;-)

Similarly, although with a couple of drinks more, the "WNRSER" could be a failed attempt at writing "OYSTER"... At least the number of letters is a match...

But, coming back to your theory, I see in it an answer to a question I was already asking myself and to which I sense you have the answer: was an automated converter created for the game? I mean, some tool that allowed the drawing team to just type on their keyboard to see the letters pressed being automatically converted in the invented characters?

That could explain the typos...
entuland 10 Sep, 2023 @ 2:55am
Sharing this with the team was actually the very first thing I did!

Unfortunately I don't know what those two sequences mean, they may be anagrams or acronyms or yet another layer of cyphering - or straight up keyboard mashing for whatever reason (if you look at the position of those characters on a keyboard I can definitely see ASRG coming up with a left-hand pinky-to-index roll and WNRSER coming up with a slightly more convolute mash with the help of the right hand to hit the N - I may be totally off track here)
