A History of Turok - A Franchise Timeline
By Convenient Spider
This is to give newcomers a look at everything ever released across the greater Turok franchise over the past many decades. Created by Matthew H. Murphy, Gaylord Du Bois, and Paul S. Newman in 1954, illustrated by Rex Maxon, and influenced by Du Bois' visits to Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico, our native American hero began his journey through Lost Valley. This is an ongoing project so long as the franchise is kept going I appreciate any help with anything I may overlook or miss out on.

Western Publishing - 1954-1982 - The Series' Beginning
Turok made his debut in Four Color Comics #596 and again in #656 before being given his own series beginning with Turok, Son of Stone #3. The series lasted for 130 issues.

The plot revolves around Turok and his friend Andar entering a cave and finding a Lost Valley inhabited by dinosaurs and various tribes of Cavemen. Turok and Andar fend off dinosaurs using arrows dipped in poison made from special berries that grow in Lost Valley. Occasionally, they deal with hostile Cavemen tribes who see them as unwanted competition in their hunting grounds, trespassers in their land, or worthy sacrifices to whatever gods they worshiped. Often times, the cavemen seek to steal Turok and Andar's secret to making fire and poison arrows, the only advantage the two have in this unforgiving land. Turok teaches Andar survival skills from time to time. Sometimes natural disasters occur creating havoc in Lost Valley. Their ultimate goal is to find a way out of Lost Valley and while they do find a lead on a way out, unlucky fate intervenes whether they're interrupted by hostile Cavemen or hungry carnivorous dinosaurs. Their progress is halted and they're forced to search elsewhere for a way out. Turok and Andar are Native American youths from a time when the Americas were not colonized yet. Since Dinosaur bones had not yet been discovered by Paleontologists, the two had no words for what to call the living dinosaurs they encounter so they settle for calling them Honkers due to the honking noises they made since this was before movies like Jurassic Park gave us the iconic T-Rex roar.

Valiant Comics - 1992-1996 - The Series' Rise in Popularity
Years after the end of the Western Publishing run, Valiant Comics debuted a new Turok in Magnus: Robot Fighter #12. With this version, the concept and setting were altered. Turok and Andar were now 18th-century Native Americans. The isolated valley became "the Lost Lands" — a land where demons, dinosaurs and aliens flourish and where "time has no meaning". A cosmic anomaly causes time in the Lost Lands to move in a self-contained loop (which means that while millions of years pass outside of it, inside it, time barely moves at all). "Unity", a line-wide Valiant Comics crossover storyline, altered the concept even further. The crossover's main villain, a psychotic superpowered being known as Mothergod, uses the Lost Lands as her base of operations. She outfits dinosaurs with intelligence-boosting implants, turning them into "bionisaurs". In the aftermath of the final battle between Mothergod and the Valiant Universe heroes, the Lost Lands begin to disappear. Turok and Andar are tossed into a post-apocalyptic future Earth, and a group of bionisaurs make it to Earth along with them. Following this, they become ruthless hunters trying to contend with the demons and aliens that exist in the future world, as well as various Lovecraftian abominations and high-tech future warriors. Mothergod seizes power in this future and begins to rebuild her empire and attempts to hunt down and kill Turok and Andar.

Valiant Comics Turok: Dinosaur Hunter arrived after and loosely continued the previous series and lasted for 53 issues including reprints of old Turok, Son of Stone comics.

Acclaim Comics - 1997-2002 - The Series We Know and Love
A new Turok series, titled simply Turok, was published by Acclaim Comics in 1997 and 1998. In the revamped Acclaim Comics universe, Turok is not the character's name, but rather a title meaning "Son of Stone". The Turok must protect the barriers between this dimension and the others—the axis of all worlds being the Lost Lands, a place where creatures from across time and space had been dragged and where "time has no meaning". Joshua Fireseed, the latest Turok, must travel between alternate universes stopping those who would try to conquer the Lost Lands, and thus all of the multiverse with it. These is the comics that the popular games are based on.

Short Stories
From Evil Seeds
An eight chapter novella written by Fabian Nicieza. It takes place after the death of the Primagen, as Joshua Fireseed, Barry Hackowitcz, and Adon attempt to reinforce the stability of the Lost Land.

Junior Novels
These novels were written by Michael Teitelbaum and based on Acclaim's storyline. Unlike in the game's and comics canon, Joshua Fireseed has two sisters, Alison Fireseed & Vivian Jakashawah, and a nephew, Clay Jakashawah.

Way of the Warrior
Josh only wanted to play baseball. But when his uncle Carl arrives home, dying of mysterious wounds, with the message that he must become the next Turok and save the Lost Land, Josh has no choice. When the Light Burden transports him, along with his sister and his best friend, to the Lost Land, Josh realizes he must learn to fight using the incredible weapons his uncle gave him. If he doesn't, the Lost Land will be taken over by Primagen, who will destroy the entire civilization. Josh must fight to the death... that's the way of the warrior.

Seeds of Evil
Is this the end of everything? TUROK must defeat Primagen's evil army and capture the Energy Totems before Primagen uses them to tear apart every existing universe in its wake. Just as TUROK is on the verge of victory, Primagen unleashes a sly scheme – a plan that may cost Turok's friends their lives!

Arena of Doom
Josh, Barry and Alison are trapped in the Lost Land, and each must fight in order to survive. Alison has been selected to be one of the Captain's elite guards. Barry struggles to avoid being killed in the Campaigner's arena. Finally, Josh must fight the Campaigner in the burning arena, a fight that will end in death for one of them.

Path of Destruction
Josh, Barry and Alison's struggle to return home leads them to the Gatekeeper, a fierce alien creature who might just help them return home – or kill them!
