In 2500 AD, humans used biology to reach for space.

First, they experimented with creating an aquatic auxiliary race.

Many aquatic animals and humans were genetically modified and great sacrifices were made.

The citizens were vehemently opposed to this, but the leader was not.

The best of the many test subjects is revealed to the world as Project Scyphozoa, the ancestor of the current Moonjelly.

Again, the citizens objected, but time calmed their anger.

Obedient to many, Project Scyphozoa is placed in households on several planets, and for a time, things are uneventful.

In 3500 AD, a secretive and shadowy organization, the Anti-Jellyfish, rises to power in an unusual way, overcoming the various parties.

They decide to destroy all Project Scyphozoa, deeming them useless tools to society.

However, when some humans try to destroy Project Scyphozoa, which has become like family to them, many take up arms, leading to the First Human Uprising.

Many of these humans enslaved Moonjellies.

In 3600 AD, after 100 years of war, the two factions finally come to terms.

It was decided that the Moonjellies should be allowed to live on another planet.

In 3700 AD, Project Scyphozoa (Moonjelly) grows into a sentient being and establishes a small, humanitarian oligarchy.

Under the name of Lunazel, it has a unique system of government not seen in any other civilization.

In this oligarchical medical cult, a single figure is praised to the point of becoming an idol to other Moonjellies, and is called the Wisejelly.

Due to their nature, the Moonjellies are very vulnerable, being invaded by others here and there, but this is compensated for by their guerrilla tactics.

The "moonbats", as they are called, traveled around pretending to be natives, catching the enemy off guard, and then throwing miniguns, grenades, etc. at the enemy, with unparalleled success.

It is rare for an entire race to have a single ideology. But the Moongeli are different. Everyone worships and believes in medicine.

Unusually, they often heal their own enemies and don't care about the ones they've defeated.

They were originally designed in the Echo as creatures to heal mankind, but their bodies have changed after a long struggle.

Their head umbrellas, which help them swim, became fixed, allowing them to wear helmets, and their tentacles, which once produced anesthetics, became a means of attack to disorient opponents in close quarters.

In the year 5500, moongellies are thriving in many star systems, and even in the fringe worlds, their tendencies are well known: the wicked will use them, and the good will find them adorable.
