If you haven't read the description, watched the trailer, did the tutorial, and ignored the data logs in the game then you would be surprised to learn that this is actually a tower defence game, once you enter the forest the first thing you should do is enter your cabin (walk through the door, duh) and get a feel of the environment (the tutorial explains how to purchase and place towers). After you've got a feel of your surroundings, go outside and collect globs (globs are used to buy towers as evident by the trailer and tutorial) you'll want at least 45 globs by nightfall.

Once you have collected your globs, place a few towers to defend your house. Towers have a description on what they do in the computer but if you want more detail read the globonomicon (the book in the house, duh) there's also a table next to the computer that you can save at. While you're waiting for morning make sure to charge your fusebox to not run out of power, and read the logs in the cabin (you start with 5 logs, but more can be found around the map) the logs give information on what you should do to make progress through the game.

After a while you might come across alternate days, these are the following:

flood:
all towers on the ground become inactive, you must place towers on top of elevated ground (visible on radar)

conx apparition:
Cons's apparition will appear, in order to defeat him you must find a bag of salt (a few spawn around the map) and pour it on him

Escort guys:
During the day a few friendly guys will spawn, you must lead them to the ritual site near the bottom of the map (giant glowing pillar) this will reward you 10 globs

Generators:
4 generators will spawn around the map, these drain your power. Dismantle them by running into them.

Keep collecting those globs, after a while you'll have a comfortable defence. Just remember to explore the quarry and the caves to make progress through the game's story.

There's a quarry on the beach, inside you will find minerals, each box gives you 2-4 There's also a large enemy in the quarry, make sure to avoid it.

You can use minerals to purchase upgrades for your cabin.
