How to fix various bugs/crashes in RDO
By arvid1328
As long as Rockstar is not maintaining the game, prompting many glitches to appear, I made this guide in order to avoid them, until Rockstar hopefully looks back at the game again. I'll update the guide as soon as I find new confirmed fixes.

I) Crashes
The game may occasionally crash, I've documented three types of crashes, and their possible fixes. A general fix is switching your Graphics API (between DX12 or Vulkan) and find the best for your hardware, personally DX12 is more stable for me, might or might not be the same for you.

1- FFFFFFFF Error:

This one happens randomly, a fix that works for me is setting audio settings to Stereo instead of Headphones, shoutout to the random redditor who told me about it.

2- Out of memory:

Another crash, this one is because the page file on your computer is not enough for the game, in summary, the page file helps software store non prioritized data in the storage drive instead of the RAM in order to save RAM space. You need to increase your page file size to at least x3 your ram size. There are tons of tutorials on how to increase the page file size, it's best explained by video, just keep in mind that you need to free up your hard drive space. For example, my PC has 16GB of RAM, I should increase the page file size to 48GB, and make sure the drive has at least 48GB, it doesn't need to be the same drive RDO is installed on, nor the Windows drive.

3- Instant crash out of thin air:

This one is because of a modder in the game, they can crash whole sessions (when I play with a friend it happens to both of us), there's nothing you can do sadly except to avoid sessions with modders, if you can. And pray the gods that Rockstar adds the highly requested Invite-Only Sessions feature like in GTA Online someday.
II) Horse related bugs
This deserves a whole section, when you call your Bounty or Hunter Wagon, sometimes it doesn't come, to prevent this, FLEE your horse by aiming on it and tapping on F on keyboard, B on Xbox controller or Circle on PS, you never know, there might be console players coming to Steam for help :") If you forgot to do this and called a wagon, you must go a bit further in order to trigger the "Your wagon will be dismissed if you go further" message, and it will appear.

Another horse related bug is in the stable, if you enter it you might get stuck inside without the horse rancher reaching you out, flee your horse before you get in, or you'll have to launch the game again.
III) Your overclock settings
I didn't overclock my CPU, but I did it with my RAM, I overclocked them to 3200mhz (factory frequency is 3000mhz) thinking I might get more FPS, all I got is crashes in many games even the most optimized games I play, let alone RDO Lol. At first I even forgot I did it, so check your BIOS, you might have overclocked you CPU or RAM when you were drunk.
IV) Avoid griefers and modders
No one likes it when they're making a delivery, and then an 8 years old kid comes to destroy their wagon, or worse, a modder that follows you everywhere you go to either blow you up, prevent you from running, or from riding your horse, whatever those 8 year old kids do, there's a way to split your session to avoid them, note that splitting your session will separate you from your posse members so keep it in mind.

- First open your task manager, then go to Performance tab, click on Open Resource Monitor.

- Then go to CPU tab and right click on RDR2 and click on Suspend Process.

- Wait for 10 seconds and click on Resume Process (The game will freeze during suspending but don't worry, it's part of the plan).

You will know that it worked when you see the message "You have changed session due to a network error" on the left top of your screen. The game will think that you had a connectivity issue when you do this, that's why it puts you on your own, but it will put other players in your new session after a few moments, but at least you'll get rid of the 8 years old kid annoying you whether he was a griefer or a modder. As a side note, this technique works also in GTA Online.
V) Unable to join a friend's session

Sometimes when you join a friend you see this, it is explained by not being able to retrieve the info of the session where your friend is, the issue may not be from you, a possible fix is either join a new random session (from the menu, then online), or switch to story mode if you have it, and then join your friend, repeat this until you can join (meaning your game can retrieve the session info). Credit goes to my friend Negan. He's got a wonderful guide about the Trader Role, check it out if you want to learn to play it properly.

VI) Conclusion
These are all the confirmed fixes I have. I want it to be a reference that addresses as many issues as possible, so I will update it as soon as I find new fixes, put this guide in your favorites so you won't miss any and thank you very much for reading.
