Adding Custom Music
By Mostly Hairless µC ⛳
From version 1.13 it is possible to add your own music playlists to Super Video Golf. This guide covers how to create a playlist with the free software VLC, and how to install that playlist to the game.

This guide uses the free media player VLC, which you can download here[www.videolan.org], to create music playlists. However it is also possible to create the playlist using a text editor such as Notepad.exe.

You also need Super Video Golf, of course 😉
Creating The Playlist
Once you have VLC downloaded and installed, it is easy to create a new playlist. Open VLC then go to View->Playlist.

In the new window which opens, drag and drop the music you wish to play in game. Super Video Golf supports mp3, ogg and wav files.

Once you have your playlist arranged, go to Media->Save Playlist to File:

and make sure to set the playlist type to *.m3u

Save the file somewhere where it is easy to find, for example on your desktop.

NOTE:
It is important that the playlist saves the music file paths as *absolute* paths to the music files. VLC does this by default, but just in case you can check the file with Notepad or another text editor. Open the *.m3u file you saved with the text editor of your choice, and you should see your tracks listed like this:

Pay particular attention to the lines which start with file:/// followed by the path, including the hard drive letter, to the music file. Super Video Golf will not be able to find files which are not correctly listed like this.
Any lines which start with a # can be safely ignored.

If the files use 'relative' paths (ie the file:///drive_letter parts are missing) you can add them in yourself with the text editor. You can also create your own playlists like this, without using VLC if you prefer. Just remember to save your text file with the extension .m3u

This is the main cause of music not playing in Super Video Golf if you have created a playlist - so if music isn't playing check and double check the file paths are correct!
Installing the playlist
To install the playlist you need to copy the *.m3u file to Super Video Golf's data directory. This directory can be found at %appdata%/Trederia/golf/user/<steamid>/music - but can also be opened from within the game.

Launch Super Video Golf and make sure you're running in windowed mode. The shortcut for this is Alt+Enter.

When Super Video Golf is in windowed mode, press F1 to open the console window and type in

show_userdir

Then press enter. A new explorer window will then open, where you can find the music directory.

Navigate to the music directory, and then drag or paste your *.m3u file. You can have multiple playlist files in the same directory, and Super Video Golf will attempt to load and play all of them in alphabetical order.

Close the console window in Super Video Golf by pressing F1, then go to Options. On the volume slider at the top, make sure to select the User Music channel, and turn the volume down to about half way - just in case the music you have chosen is very loud! You can return to the Options menu at any time to adjust the volume if you need to.

When you're done, quit Super Video Golf and relaunch it. If you need to switch back to full screen press Alt+Enter again.

Now when you start a new game either on the course or on the driving range, Super Video Golf will play your music in the background! If something isn't working, press F1 to open the console to look for any warnings or errors. Also make sure that the file paths are correct (see creating the playlist) in the playlist file.

That's it! 😁
Enabling Shuffle Play
From version 1.14 it's possible to enabled shuffled playback of any installed playlists

On the main menu open the console window with F1 and type

shuffle_music true

to enable shuffled playlists, and

shuffle_music false

to return to normal playlist order. The true/false value is persisted between sessions so it only needs to be set once. Each time the game loads it will shuffle any found playlists when the value is set to true.

@Slice o'Pizza That playlist is awesome, it fits so well 😁 I've added a console command which will switch shuffled playlists on or off. It'll be available once the 1.14 update releases, and I'll update the guide with the details on how to use it.

That would be awesome! I've been working on a playlist of tunes that fit well with the game. :)

Works great, thanks for the tutorial! Is there a way to make the playlist shuffle so the songs don't play in the same order each time?
