How to make it work
This game on Steam gets stuck but never really launches, you can quickly solve this without any external download, no need for any cracked files containing viruses.

All you have to do is download it on Steam, and then download EA Desktop App which now has a feature that integrates EA games downloaded from Steam, so it will see the game as in library and allow you to click "Repair game" from it.
In case you don't see The Sims Medieval in EA Desktop app library, you have to go to the steam library, right-click on The Sims Medieval, and "Show product key" which will provide you a cd key to activate it on the EA launcher.

After this is done, your Steam version is possible to launch again from Steam.

The game will only work on old, unsupported operating systems.

EA never responded to my support ticket, so I just went ahead and bought the game again on the EA app. Having it installed through Steam and owning it in the EA app doesn't seem to make a difference, it still isn't working when I try to launch it through either platform. I will try uninstalling it from steam, clean installing on EA app, and see if it works from there.

maybe something changed and they don't accept new activations, like many removed games on EA App, some people had to go thru their support to activate a removed game. But I doubt it's still possible today.

When I attempt to redeem the code on EA app, it initally says the code is accepted, but then says I need to redeem the code on https://store.thesims3.com/myAccount.html . However, when I register it there, it says the code is invalid. Any advice?

In fact you have to launch it on steam in the end

You don't have to use the Sims 3 store, that's for DLCs. Make sure the game is installed on steam, then launch EA desktops app (if you have origin, try uninstalling that one and install the new desktop app)

It wasnt integrating my EA games, so I went to try to use the key, but it wanted me to use the Sims 3 store... so I went there, but the product key is 20 characters while the sims 3 store only allows 16 digit keys... any ideas?

What happens when you launch it? It can be a missing library like ".net framework redistributable", didn't check which libraries it has in resources folder, but all of them need to be installed manually.
