How to run the steam version in compatibility mode and/or sync up with the non-steam version.
By ♥ Kevinf100 ♥
Currently you have no way within the options of the game to change the compatibility mode and to sync your options from the non-steam version options. This guide will show you how to change these setting yourself. You can also use this to fix the crashing on AMD GPUs.

Finding the RuneScape steam version perferences file.
1. Navigate to your RuneScape Steam game folder. (You can do this by right clicking on the game in your steam library and picking "Browse Local Files"
2. Once you're in the "RuneScape" folder, open up the "launcher".
3. Open the preferences.cfg

This file is what controls RuneScape launch options.
Enabling compatibility mode (This will also fix AMD GPU crashes. Not needed to sync sync your settings.)
If you'll like to run the game in compatibility mode, stick "compatibility=true" without the quotes in a new line in "preferences.cfg"
Syncing up with your non-steam version. (Not needed for compatibility mode to work.)
In your Steam RuneScape "preferences.cfg" replace these two lines

cache_folder=WHAT EVER PATH THIS IS
user_folder=WHAT EVER PATH THIS IS

with

cache_folder=C:\ProgramData\Jagex
user_folder=C:\Users\YOUR WINDOWS USERNAME\AppData\Local\Jagex

If for some reason this doesn't work
(I'm pretty sure these folders are always the same and should), you'll need to find your non-steam RuneScape location.
If you don't know the PATH
1. Open up non-steam RuneScape.
2. Open up task manager.
3. Right click on "RuneScape Client" and click on "Open file location"

You can now copy the cache and user info over to your steam install.

Didn't know that, but AMD did fix the crash I was having like a week after I did this. I don't recommend using this if you don't need to. You never know what PCs might need this tho.

For anyone curious, the Compatibility mode forces ANGLE (OpenGL to Direct3D 11) instead of directly using OpenGL. Can check by pressing ~ and displayfps

With compatibility mode I lose over 20 FPS and uncompressed textures option with Intel UHD 630. RS is stable for me without it though.
