INFO

GENERAL GAMEPLAY
You will be greeted by Nib the Jib and he will also be there to guide you on your journey through Tormentosia. He even has some nice objectives prepared that are basically our tutorial. So whenever you feel lost, check either if there is an ongoing task from him, or just check this F1 page for help and guidance.

To get the best impression, just get out there and explore. Build things, craft items and fight enemies. Set up a town and try to level it as far as possible, then build another one or join an existing one. See how well you can defend it and how much it shapes the server where towns are set up. The map already has tons of things to discover, and we will continue improving the content daily from now on. If you have any questions about something, don't hesitate to ask. Keep in mind that a lot of the tutorial and onboarding stuff is just not fully there yet.

Also, make this a social experience. Meet people, try to build together with them, and just enjoy the game. Try to see what you like and where you wish that there was more. We have likely already sent you several keys. If you need more, don't hesitate to ask. Coreborn is most fun with friends.

IF YOU WANT TO PLAY TOGETHER WITH FRIENDS!
Once you have clicked the NPC with the map Icon over its head you are assigned to a survival map and switching to a different one will result in losing all progress. If you want to play with your friends, open the Social menu by pressing "P" and then right-click on a friend or someone you recently met. Choose to travel to their world. This will re-assign you to a different Server. But keep in mind that you will lose progress, so only do this if really needed.

GENERAL

FOOD
In Ambros, you can find food in many different forms. In the beginning, you'll probably have to rely mostly on berries and mushrooms, which grow on bushes and the ground. Enemies also drop food that you can use. By using crafting [C] and later cooking stations, you can combine different resources to create recipes that grant you the "well fed" status effect, which passively heals you over time. Better food provides greater healing.

To consume a food item, go to your inventory, select it, and press [Use] or pull it in one of your Quickslots for easy access.

DETERIORATION
Over time, items and buildings will degrade and eventually break down. Only the protective effect of a Town can make this less servere. To learn more about Towns, see the corresponding section in the help page.

AGGRESSIVE/NON AGGRESSIVE ANIMALS
Tormentosia is home to a variety of creatures, some more friendly towards strangers than others. They will react to you in different ways; some actively defend their territory, while other might not mind you at all.

SURVIVAL MAP AND COREHEIM
You have access to two locations in Tormentosia - Ambros and Coreheim. You can explore the lands of Ambros and build your town there, while Coreheim servers as an active social hub where you'll meet other Coreborn ready to join and connect with you. If you want to return to Coreheim, just look for street signs that say "Pipers Whistle". It's close to where the giant blue beam extends into the sky, and the portal is just north of the town.

DEATH
If you are defeated by enemies, natural causes, or plain gravity, you will be brought back to where you first entered Ambros or to a town if you set your respawn point there. All items in your inventory will be dropped on the ground at the location of your death. However, your armor, weapons, tools and items in your quick slots will still be with you.

You will see a bright purple beam in the sky where you originally died. If you head towards the point where it meets the ground, you will find a gravestone that contains the items you dropped. Hurry, though, as the gravestone only remains in that spot for 1 hour.

INVENTORY
By pressing [I], you open your inventory. On the right, you will see tool slots for weapons and tools, armor slots, stats, and quick slots. You can drag and drop items into those slots, and consumables like cooked food, bandages, buffing items, or potions into the quick slots at the bottom left. They will then appear on your HUD and can be consumed using the 1-4 keys.

The [Use] button at the bottom right will consume the currently highlighted item, if possible, and [Remove] destroys one of the highlighted items.

CRAFTING

INTERFACE
Making things is the backbone of Coreborn. You gather all the resouces and press [C] to open the crafting menu.

ON THE LEFT
The recipes you already have all the ingredients for will be highlighted. The recipes you are generally able to craft but dont't have all the ingredients for yet are shown with lower opacity.

Further on the left are filters, vertical icons that you can use to sort recipes. The search bar at the top helps in finding specific recipes.

ON THE RIGHT
Once you choose a recipe by clicking on it, the right side of the menu will show the name of the recipe on the top, with a small description text below. Hovering over an icon of an ingredient with your mouse shows a tooltip info that also contains info on where to find that resource in many cases. If that ingredient is craftable, a small arrow appears on the right that can be clicked to be guided towards the recipe.

Below that is the required crafting station and the necessary crafting station level. To be able to craft this recipe, you need to go to the station named here that has the required level, press [E] on it, and craft the recipe once you have all the materials.

These materials can be found right below the required station. The icon, name and required amount are shown here. If the name and numbers are in red, it means you currently do not have enough of that specific material in your inventory. The left number shows how much you currently have, and the right one indicates how much is required for this recipe.

If the material needed is craftable, you can see an icon lto the left of those numbers mentioned above. Click on it to be guided right toward that material's recipe.

Lastly, at the bottom, you see the icon, name, and amount of the crafted item you will receive, and also a slider that allows for bulk crafting.

UNLOCKING MORE RECIPES
To unlock more recipes, you have to unlock more expertises. These can be found on the Skill-Tree [U]. Once you click on an Expertise, the bottom right contains info on which recipes will be unlocked. For more Info on the Skills, please check the section "Skill & Expertises" of this Journal.

BUILDING

Our building system allows for a lot of variation. Please check the controls below and especially experiment with rotating things.

We often heard that people struggled with our snapping system. The yellow little markers indicate snapping points when placeing a blueprint. Try looking directly at them while having a blueprint selected, and you should be able to figure out the system quickly.

GENERAL
Most of the general functionalities of our building system are well explained on the Controls page of this help menu. However, there are still some rules we would like you to know about.
  • Even if a tiny bit of a blueprint isn't within a town's borders, it might turn red and not be placeable.

  • Make sure to place essential things in a safe space in your town because, during town attacks, they might ge destroyed.

  • Bulildings outside of town deteriorate slowly and will eventually be destroyed unless repaired.

  • Once you place a blueprint, it will show the resources needed. Anyone who has authority can put them down and finish buildings. However, this generates wrath, so be careful. For more information on this, check the "town attacks" section.

  • Only a few things, and only the simple wood set, can be placed outside of towns. You will see a note to that effect on the building menu, though.

  • Certain spots on the map are blocked from building (spawns, settlements, reserved locations), so blueprints you try to place here will always stay red.

  • Any item, character, bushes, trees, and other resources will block blueprints from being placed and constructed. Get them out of the way by using hands, tools, or sweet talking.

  • A red blueprint indicates that this spot is not suitable for building this building piece / blueprint or that the stability in this position is too low. Build more stable or with stronger materials to avoid this.

COMBAT

BASICS
The only available weapon, for now, is the Greatsword, which has three main moves: Basic attacks, Heavy Attacks, and Finishers.

Left and right mouse buttons triggers attacks. The left mouse button performs a regular swing attack, while the right mouse button performs a sweeping heavy attack. However, these attacks can be interrupted if you take damage from enemies.

Finishers come into play to enhance your combat abilities. Every time you land a basic attack, you gain charges, which are displayed on your screen in the center. When you have a charge, press the [Q] button to execute a Finisher, which deals high damageand has bonus effects.

The specific Finisher triggered depends on the last attack you performed. Using the righ mouse button charges up a forward stab that pushes back the enemy, while using the left mouse button performs a leg sweep that staggers / interrupts enemies. Both Finishers inflict more damage than basic attacks.

For controls, refer to the Controls Section of this help page.

TOWNS

General
Towns are probably the most essential feature of Coreborn. They serve as a reserved spot on the map claimed by you and others allowed to join your town. In these areas marked by a golden border, no one else can build, destroy or interact with anything. However, structures and objects outside of towns will deteriorate and eventually be destroyed unless repaired. Deterioration does not happen in towns. The weather can still damage buildings within town, depending on the enviroment you have built in.

THE TOWN CENTER
To place a Town Center, equip and draw the building hammer [Left mouse or Z], click the right mouse button, and choose the Town section, which contains the Town Center blueprint. Find a nice spot, place the blueprint, and finish building it, given you have the materials in your inventory, by pressing the left mouse button with the hammer while looking at it. Check the "Building Control" section of this Journal for more information on placement.

Then you need to place a town gate by again choosing it from the same page of the building menu and placing it on the outskirts of your town. This will generate a path in between the gate and the town center.

If you set it up in a way that doesn't allow you to build said path, you either have to fix that by placing structures that lead towards the town center and allow for a valid path, or pick a different position for the town gate.

Once you have a Town Center and set a town gate, you gain access to range of features:
  • Respawn at a town center after death
  • Allow others to join your town
  • Build more crafting stations
  • Defend your town
  • Construct defense structures
  • Level up your town and unlock more building materials

ADDING PEOPLE TO YOUR TOWN
If people would like to join your town (by loooking at the Town Center and pressing [E]), they can now do so. You have access the menu the same way, by pressing [E] when facing the Town Center, to either approve or deny their application and manage members in general.

Anyone added this way currently has full authority to build, destroy, or access anything in the town, so be cautious. Additional authority management options are planned for the future.

EXPANDING YOUR TOWN
To expand the boundaries of your town, craft and place town expansions, found on the "Other" page of the building hammer menu. The number of expansions you can build depends on your town's level.

TOWN ATTACKS & WRATH
Sorgoth despises your efforts to reclaim these lands, so leveling a Town generates wrath. Once it reaches 100%, your town will come under attack. Gothkin will spawn and attempt to destroy your structures. If they succeed and reduce the health of the Town Center to zero, your town loses a level, and the wrath meter is reset.

Every time you add an essence crystal to your town center, which is required to level your town, it generates wrath and eventually triggers an attack. Be careful. Once an attack is triggered you have to fight it.

The spawning corrupted creatures and Gothkin will spawn in waves and try to destroy your Town Center. If they are successful, it loses a level. However, you can fight them and build defense structures to better protect what you have created.

As your Town level increases, the attacks become stronger and more frequent, so it's crucial to be prepared or delay them, if you lack the time later.

LEVELING YOUR TOWN
By interacting with your Town Center, you can level up your town, To do so, you need to provide more and more Essence Crystals and fulfill the listed requirements. Once you have submitted all the necessary resources, your town will level up, unlocking more features, extensions, crafting stations, and will trigger stronger town attacks.

It's an essential step for progression but significantly increases the game's difficulty. Collaborating with other players and having them join your town can be a huge help!
ESSENCE CRYSTALS
These are basically the energy your town needs to level and expand. You can only get them by handing in resources in Coreheim. Doing your part in reclaiming Ambros!

To do so, bring the required resources to the city and speak to one of the Juristographs at the marketplace. They offer a variety of tradable items that you can craft from materials found in the world.

SKILL & EXPERTISES

To progress in Coreborn and enhance your crafting abilities, as well as level up your knowledge in areas like Combat, Hunting or Fishing you will have to make use of the Skill and Expertise System we have established.

Currently, you already have access to a bunch of Skills, and we are constantly expanding upon them to give you the opportunity to build a character that best suits your playstyle. You can choose the perks and advantages you find most useful.

EXPERTISE TOPICS
Expertise Topics in the Skill Menu are marked as hexagons. Each expertise spans two expertise topics, which are related but do not build upon each other. These topics grant you small upgrades, recipes and two Perk points upon completion,, You level up these topics by using the related skill and gaining XP.

For example, If you craft smelting items, you gain XP in the Smelting Expertise Topic, while crafting advanced smelting items earns you XP for Advanced Smelting.

PERKS & PERK HUBS
The circular Perk Hubs unlock when you reach a certain stage of progression in the related Expertise Topic. To unlock them, you need to invest Perk Points, which you receive at Milestone Levels of your expertise Topics, into the Perks of your choice. This will grant you upgrades, permanent buffs or upgrades for i.e. your Crafting Stations. Also it's required to unlock progress to the next Expertise.

Since different Perk Hubs have more multiple ways of being unlocked, you can choose which of the related skills you would like to invest in to reach and invest into these Hubs.

Perk Points are limited, so you can't invest in all Perk Hubs at once. Manage your points wisely and, if necessary, redistribute them with the special NPC in Coreheim, if your preferences change.

XP DISTRIBUTION AND REDISTRIBUTION
Just like in the real world you can't master everything. There is a maximum number of Expertise Topics you can fully level up. This means that you may reach the cap by simply playing the game and eventually max out.

When all Expertise Points are already distributed and another topic levels up, it takes away the Expertise Milestone from another Topic, causing it to level down just below the Milestone.

However, a Topic that has just leveled down is just 1 XP away from the next Milestone, so the next action tied to that skill will make it level up again, if it can gain XP.

Still, we want to give you the option to customize how your character is build and influence which skill you gain XP in. This ensures that you can choose which skills you really want to level up and focus on.

DISTRIBUTION SETTINGS
The default setting of Expertise Topic is "Up", which means you constantly gain XP when using a skill.

"Lock Progress", indicated by a fully filled diamond, prevents you from gaining more XP, maintaining the current level. Use this when you don't want to focus on that particular skill at the moment and want to keep its level as it is.

"Only lowering progress" is an option for skills you no longer want to level. By selecting this you allow the skill system to draw XP from these topics to increase your progress in other. Skills marked with this symbol will be the first ones the system then draws XP from when levelling up a new skill.

BIOMES

Farmlands
In the Farmlands, you'll discover a combination of golden fields of Daylight Wheat and fertile grasslands, just waiting to be cultivated. You will find mostly peaceful creatures, berries, and resources for an easy start to your adventure here.

Forests
With rich stands of trees, lush mushroom patches, Plumquat bushes, and occasional clearings, the Forest is an excellent place for your first endeavors into the wilds of Ambros - but be aware of Griz!

Hills
Windy dunes meet hard stone and are home to tough enemies like Teraiva and Holotops. But ores and granite, or the precious Ambrosite, are still tempting enough to some brave adventurers. This is a challenging area so come prepared.

Moss Sea

Mountains
In the harshest of Ambros' biomes, the toughest enemies and most valuable resources await. Precious ore deposits, serious opponents like the Frostmane, and strong winds rule these peaks. You need to prepare the right gear, strong weapons and consumables to enter this area.

These transfromed creatures of greater strength and resillience, along with the gothkin, unleash their wrath upon your town under Sorgoth's command.

These corrupted beings appear distinctively different from their uncorrupted counterparts by wearing darker coloured coats and emitting reddish vapors of smoke.

GOTHKINS
Not exactly comparable to the usual creatures found roaming Tormentosia, these loyal minions of Sorgoth carry out their creators commands, ceaselessly striving to thwart the Coreborn's endeavors in reclaiming the lost lands. Sustained by the noxious crimson vapor enveloping them, they extend the corruption of the Devourer beyond the protective barriers, launching assaults on any obstacles they encounter.

FAQ

How do i get help?
This is a very early version of this game, and not all tutorials and help features are in place yet. So don't feel bad about having questions that need answers. The best way to currently get help is to use the chat feature [Enter] to ask for advice and help from other players. You can also check out our Discord. Here, we have a dedicated help section where we share more video guides.

Who am i?
You are a Coreborn, a chosen member of Tormentosla's society allowed to venture into recently reclaimed regions from Sorgoth the Devourer to recover and revive them. You have the ability to shape the world and find your place within it.

What am i supposed to do?
You can help us the most by playing as much content as possible. Gather resources and build a town. Then try to level up that town to the maximum level available and defend it from the following attacks.
Build all defenses, use all crafting stations, create better gear, and fight the enemies on the map using what you have made. And most important: if you have any kind of feedback or discover bugs and inconsistencies reducing your experience, you are more than welcome to let us know. Please join our discord or submit your feedback to the feedback form. We greatly appreciate your opinion and help to make the game better.

How do i start?
Follow the guidance of Nib the Jib. You meet him at your first arrival in Coreheim. Talk to him and follow his directions to get to the Survival Map and there, complete the tutorial to get a first understanding of what Coreborn: Nations of the Ultracore is about. He will show you where to find the first important resources, how to establish your first town and how to defend it against the hordes of Sorgoth.

How do i orientate?
Besides the map, which you can access over the in-game menu, Nib the Jib was sent to assist you. He will show you the ropes on how to navigate on the Survival Map. You can always find your way back to him by looking out for the Jibbling Icon on your map.

Where do i find specific resources?
Coreborn already features different biomes, including mountains, hills, forests, moss seas and farmlands. Resources are spread across these biomes, with some unique to specific locations. If you can't find the resource you are looking for, explore the map a bit. It might just be in a different biome. If you still need help, refer to the item list in this journal.

How do i build houses?
To build a house, you need to craft a Building Hammer first. You can find it in your Crafting menu [C]. Once you have the hammer, you'll be able to start building. The controls are explained on the first help page [F1], and there's an additional video available on our Discord server.

Why can't I build in some Locations?
In the spawn areas of the survival map of Ambros and in places reserved for later development, you cannot build towns or structures. <it's also possible that your chosen location already has a town claiming it. Any blueprint you place here will show up in red. Find a different spot to build or just ask the players in this area if you can join their town.

I'm stuck. What can I do?
If you find yourself stuck, open the Settings by pressing [Esc] and use the [Teleport to Coreheim] Button. It will teleport you back to Coreheim. Keep in mind that the button has a cooldown, so it's better to use it only when really necessary.
