Too put it lightly, the loli fanservice in Fate/Kaleid is an integral part of the experience and it elevates the series beyond its contemporaries. Within the first episode a few crucial details are subtly given to the viewer: first is that this version of Illya is a 10 year old elementary schooler (very important) and second is that the episode has a 3 minute long bathing scene. That scene is what advanced weebs/men of culture refer to as the “normie filter” as it shows the depth of the show while holding onto traditional Japanese values, like loli fanservice. But what truly sets this show apart is season two, where after all the Normies who want to ruin anime have stopped watching, the show hits you with the truth: there’s even more fanservice. The scene where Cloe French kisses dozens of elementary schoolers and their teacher is important to establishing her character and differentiating her from Illya, who are the same person but different versions of each other. Like sonic the hedgehog and his counter part shadow, Illya and Cloe have a lot of sexual tension between them, especially as the continue to fight over their Onii-chan’s affection.
