This mod replaces familiar, proper names with generic names that either sound similar or are more descriptive. Civ attributes, units, and leaders, as well as World Wonders all retain their original functionality. The game plays the same, it just feels different.

Specifically, this mod replaces the names for Civs, Leaders, Cities, City States, map features, World Wonders, Great People, Great Works, Heroes, Projects, Civ-unique features (units, districts, buildings, and improvements), Religions, and Civ/Leader Traits/Abilities.

Aside from all the hundreds of name replacements, only three files, TopPanel.xml, TopPanel.lua, and HistoricMoments.lua, are modified. These three files are modified to remove references to the current Game Year (and thus removes the need to specify either "B.C." or "A.D."). Instead, this mod shows only the number of the current Game Turn.

Of the 50 civs, all but eleven have name replacements for all of their cities - the original city names for these eleven civs were so unfamiliar to me personally that it hasn't made sense for me to spend time changing them.

I created this mod because I didn't enjoy seeing familiar names and features in wrong places (e.g., The Eiffel Tower in Los Angeles) - these familiar names and locations broke my immersion into gameplay. Not everyone feels this way - many players like this familiar facet of the game and won't see value in this mod - but for those who would like their gameplay to be more disconnected from their awareness of history and geography, this mod may help.

I hope I have not made any inappropriate or offensive name replacements - absolutely none were intended. I will correct any such mistakes as soon as I discover them. I will be following Comments for this purpose.

In Progress:
Immediate corrections to any names that are culturally inappropriate.

Refine name changes that are too descriptive to be plausible, such as some of the World Wonders and Trait Names.

Names that I missed, as discovered by myself or noted by other players in the Comments.

City name changes for the eleven civs that I skipped since they were already unfamiliar to me.

Out of Scope:
Front End text: the text that we see during game selection and setup. I do like starting a game with some idea of the culture/civ I am about to play, I just don't want the familiarity to carry through into gameplay itself.

Civilopedia entries: too much work to change and too valuable as a learning tool - I learn a lot by reading the Civilopedia entries and can see that the developers put a lot of work went into preparing them for us.

Sounds like I should plan to make this same mod for Civ 7 when it comes out.

Thank you, V1R4L. That is precisely why I created the mod - immersion without distraction.

THANK YOU for making this. This is exactly what I need to enjoy this game. I wanted to enjoy this strategy game without having to constantly be reminded of real external biases towards any of the real names/places referenced in the game.

Thank you. Hmmm, I don't know what to say... I'm not familiar with Linux or how it is different from how the game plays in Windows.

Interesting mod, unfortunately it doesn't work for me on Linux with Proton version 1.0.12.54.
Any ideas, probably namespaces or localization issue?

In a dark future when all of history has been copyrighted, this mod stands as a beacon of familiarity. Alone.
