On a serious note If I recall unless it's been changed. "burst fire" is the way to go. because your first bullet you fire for some reason get's the "super bullet" deal where it always does more damage then every other shot fired. though I can't recall if that is a thing in all of the games or just some. either way I find SMG and Assault rifle burst fire mode to be the most effective as it makes the gun plenty lethal but it can operate well from a distance and becomes something like a Halo Battle rifle. as they can fire so much further in burst and semi while being accurate. the only time full auto is ever useful is if you expect to be point blank and even then I don't often find that useful for the simple fact there's no artificial fire cap. this means as fast as you can pull the trigger it'll burst fire pretty much at that rate practically becoming full auto anyways
