JGR/JNR EF52,54,14 Class Electric Locomotive

The EF52 was the first electric locomotive produced by national railway in Japan.
It was developed on the basis of imported electric locomotives, in particular the EF51 and ED53 made by Westing House and Baldwin in America, with taking the lead Japanese manufacturers.
Although a solid design, defects were initially encountered and adjustments were made in the later products that became the EF54, which was completed in the next generation, the EF53.
The EF52 was also modified by feedback and became stable and versatile,
and boasted a long service life, regardless of where it worked.
A later type, called EF54, was later converted to EF14 for freight service and was also in service for a long time though infamous.
Two EF52s are preserved, of which the one in Kyoto is housed in a museum and can be seen at any time.
