Mink Class Escort Frigate

"Built before the standardization of Jump drives and the militarization of the APF and its fleet the Mink class frigate is a very small vessel intended for patrol and anti piracy duties. Its lack of Jump drive means it must rely on jump ships for transit to other systems. This extremely short range coupled with a very light armament and armor profile make it a poor choice for ship to ship combat. Nonetheless many Mink class ships found themselves thrust into frontline combat to buy time for better equipped warships to arrive when the RBN began their invasion. Mink class E-36 nicknamed 'Stingray' would be the first APF vessel to detect and engage the first invasion fleet signaling the alarm for the rest of the APF fleet before being destroyed. Mink class vessels usually only carried one crew member due to their short range nature requiring them to be based at stations although they were capable of carrying two crew for long range missions and voyages when necessary."
