Flashback

Have you ever died on a perfectly good run in a room with nothing in it that should've killed you? If you've played this game for any amount of time, the answer is probably yes.

Enter Flashback, a single-use active item found in the Angel Room and Secret Room item pools! Get some revenge by returning to a room you've previously died in, and win back one of your old passive items by completing it! On top of that, only items of quality 2 or above will be chosen for your reward, and 33% of the time, only items of quality 3 or higher will be chosen!

As soon as this mod is installed, it will save all your game overs in almost all rooms and allow you to re-challenge them when using the item on the same floor variant (up to a limit of 1000 total deaths, after which old deaths are discarded).

There are some conditions for the item's use. But if it doesn't work, it won't be consumed, meaning you can keep it for as long as you need!

Supports EID (Encyclopedia coming soon!).
Does not support Fiend Folio or other mods using the Custom Stage API, as this breaks the method used to save rooms.

If you remove a mod while Flashback is installed, run the command 'epiremove' in the debug console to prevent possible errors!

Specifics on the item's inner workings can be found on the discussion page, but here's the long and short of it:

• The item (currently) does not work in boss rooms. This may change in a future update.
  
• The item won't work if there's no death on the floor to get revenge for, and doesn't count deaths without valid item rewards to give
  
• The item won't work if you're on the wrong floor (A death on Basement cannot be revenged on Burning Basement)
  
• The item won't work in devil, angel, and other off-map rooms due to celestial interference

And, one final warning:
Do not try to escape a flashback, or you may find yourself trapped in your memories forever.
