Do this when you get a system error or the game hangs, but not just because you got bit.
I don't recommend doing this on a regular basis. Otherwise you will lose all interest in survival.
There may be problems in translation

What to do?

Let's say you have this situation.

You don't have much time! Pause or press ESC.
Now you just need to shut down the PC (via the button on the pc case).
Then just go into the game, boot to your save and see if the bite is gone.

You will boot at the same position, but the clock will show your wake-up time. That is, if you got up at 6:00, you got bitten at 2:20 pm, you restarted the PC, the character will be in the same place, but the time will be 6:00.

FAQ

- I fought off the zombies that bit me. Will your method help me?
- More likely no than yes. I checked, after 7 minutes the method doesn't work anymore. Does that mean that if I fight back in 5 minutes, the method will work? I don't think so.

- All right, I restart the PC, but what do I do next? Because I'll be surrounded by.
- Zombies that are nearby disappear after that.

- Look, my PC takes a long time to start up, is there any other way?
- In general, you can through the task manager. But the chance is very small.

- And how does this affect the world?
- Well, it doesn't seem to. As I wrote above, zombies disappear nearby (5-10 cells) and that's about it.

what you're doing is forcing a 'crash save', which is generally slightly behind actual gameplay, all you're doing is just not pressing the exit to desktop option which saves the current session.

... an easier way to do this is to just hit alt F4 as soon as you get bit.

Basically, you can shut off your damn PC using the power button even if you're rendering 16K 3D midget porn, doesn't matter.

@QB14 Modern Windows kernels have made this a thing of the past because of ACPI. Not recommended if you play on an old Windows 98 machine, but it's not even possible to play this game on something so old. Also not sure if this is supported on Linux distros.

And even if you CAN heal yourself, doesn't necessarily mean you should. I'd say the best option would be to just accept your character's death. It's an integral part of the game.
