Easy Tacview 3D Objects and Database Image Editing in C:MO

Hello, if you've noticed some models are wrong in C:MO Tacview (and you want to fix it), open STEAM\steamapps\common\Command - Modern Operations\Resources\Tacview\Associations_DB3000.xls. It's in Excel format but you can just as easily use LibreOffice Calc (the free alternative to Microsoft Excel). Here's one example:

Open Associations_DB3000.xls in Excel (or LibreOffice), click on "Ship" at the bottom and type "Hermes" in the search box (no quotes) and click "next". This is also obviously the same model for INS Viraat (R22), after HMS Hermes was sold to India in 1987.

Notice in the right column the model assosciated is wrong. If you look in your Meshes folder (STEAM\steamapps\common\Command - Modern Operations\Resources\Tacview\Data\Meshes) you will see one of the old models I uploaded to the Matrix forum (Tacview 3D shapes thread) called Watercraft.Hermes.obj. Copy this filename and replace the incorrect *.obj in the spreadsheet (double-click, delete, paste, enter). I forget exactly how many incorrect entries there are but I think it's only about 10. Click save (making sure to save in the original Excel format) and that's it. Now in game you will have the proper Tacview 3D model (somewhat relevant for Falklands 1982 scenarios, I imagine?) :)

And now just a small bonus tip for the Database. If you're bothered that a certain picture is missing from the database (and there obviously is, since there are literally thousands of variants of ships, vehicles and weapons that would be too many to include in the base game) simply Google it and find whatever picture you want to use and save it. Rename it to the object in the database; for example, look up Exocet SM39 (sub-launch variant used by the French Rubis class) in the database and the photo is missing, but you notice it has the entry of #3096. So, simply rename your newly saved photo to Weapon_3096.jpg and drop it in the proper folder (STEAM\steamapps\common\Command - Modern Operations\DB\Images\DB3000) and that's it, cheers!

Tip: If you want to create your own Tacview 3D models, let me just say it's much easier than you might think, especially if you use Blender to do it (literally hundreds of tutorials on Youtube). There are also millions and millions (did you like my Trump impression?) of free 3D models already uploaded all over the Internet that you can use as a base to convert to .obj format and use as you see fit in Tacview (the less polygons the better, ideally under 1MB in size). Good luck and good hunting.
