A review of the PC edition of Fairy Fencer F: Refrain Chord. A game which has come out a whole month later on the PC than what it has on the consoles. I'm not sure why PC fans have had to wait.

Fairy Fencer F: Refrain Chord is yet ANOTHER retelling of the very first game but instead of starting at the beginning we start were off when Ethel begins attacking the party and its from here a new story starts. So if you've never played the past previous games then you'll be totally confused and will need to go read a quick summary or play ADF and then realise it's a better game than this one.

Since Idea Factory has been having issues with various game as of late (Mary Skelter 2, Sisters VS Sisters) I figured it was best to mention the censorship. There doesn't appear to be any at present within the game (Characters swear and lewd stuff is mentioned) but you can tell that some of the themes/settings have been toned down from how things were in Advent Dark Force (Ethel for example).
There is mild swearing within the game but considering everything is in Japanese I doubt this is going to cause the same issues like what happened with Sisters VS Sisters.

The game is made with Unity Engine and I cut short that in the video because I didn't want to waste 40 minutes talking about how hit/miss Unity is. The long story short is that Unity can be good/bad depending on how well the game has been coded/ported.

For this game I have had a lot of issues with it thanks to Unity. When playing this game on my PC it caused my GPU to be pushed much harder than what it should have been (GPU going to 70oc for what essentially is a PS3 looking game + I've 11 case fans for cooling) and for my Steam Deck it sounded and felt as if this one game was turning it into a handheld toaster.

So perhaps the delay is so that the settings can be adjusted to work better. You might also notice some screen tearing. This is down to no vsync option currently being present within the game (However I'm Beta testing so this might change upon PC release) and although I tried a manual method it still didn't work fully.

I suspect that the lack of an English dub is down to the songs within the game (Fleur has about 8 songs, Glace only 3) You end up hearing these exact same songs over and over again on constant repeat and because there all song in Japanese the Developers might have thought it would seem strange the characters speaking in English one minute then singing in Japanese the next.
