Croft Engine: New game engine that is more faithful to TR1 than OpenLara with some modern graphics features. but not as modern as OpenLara. Features like multiplayer, texture packs, and speedrun ghosts.

Automated Fix: Installer for TombATI with some extras such as higher quality music and FVMs. No longer being updated and uses outdated TombATI.

nGlide: Graphics wrapper to play TR1 on a modern machine. Do not use.

TR1X: Reverse engineered TR1 that faithfully plays the original game but with modern features such as a braid, skybox, properly scaled graphics effects, most bug fixes, etc. Still being developed with TR2 support coming soon. TombATI: First TR1 modernized patch that enabled modern resolutions, texture packs, and other small fixes/changes. Out of date.

OpenLara: New game engine that reimplements TR1. Behaves differently than the original TR1 like different physics but has features such as modern water and shadows. Development is stagnant.

I took informations to play this game and all this name came along.
I'm not sure if some of those are the same thing with different names.
I don't know well what to do honestly.
I know there is always someone who answer "Why bothering us, just install this and try"
but if someone could take the time to explain, I really prefer to feel less confused before moving.

I'm stuck on level 3 "Lost Valley". I can't get to the level exit door. There's just an invisible wall. Had to use the cheat to complete the level. Maybe this cheat was added for situations like this ;)

To reset the controller settings, you need to delete the file "TR1X.json5" in the "cfg" folder.

I don't understand how to remove the assignment of the gamepad button. It says "Reset all: Hold" or "Unbind: Hold". I hold different buttons, but the button does not reset. How to do this?

I've found this to be the best experience so far.
Most of the options are available in game.
It doesn't have the higher quality FMVs but I find you loose a lot of detail from those compared to the original.
Hoping this is available for the next in the TR series.

Also I found that it doesn't really matter where you install this as it prompted to install to my Documents folder. Just add the below to the launch options of the games Steam shortcut as per @Smitty Werben Jager Man Jensons comments.

To play Tomb Raider:

"<path to TR1X folder>\TR1X.exe" %command%

To play the Unfinished Business expansion:

"<path to TR1X folder>\TR1X.exe" %command% -gold

This is the ultimate way to play classic Tomb Raider. Comment from Smitty Werben below should be incorporated into the guide, to seamless integrate the game with Steam.
