▶ SOME QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

IS THIS NEW?
No. This has been possible for years.
All it took was some simple googling like
”How to use cardboard vr on pc” or “How to play non VR games in VR”.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

IS THIS A HAT IN TIME ONLY?
No. You can play almost any game in VR with this setup, or at least as long as the software supports the game, though some games have proper VR support or even mods much better than this including 6Dof VR. Especially quite a few Unreal Engine 4 and Unity games, just try Googling for them.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I HAVE AN ISSUE CAN YOU HELP?
No, seriously try asking google.
It will probably have an answer since this is not A Hat in Time specific.

Это конечно все круто но зачем?

Thank you for giving me the idea to try 'em with this guide! I would have never thought to try any of these programs without it, ha ha. I love tinkering with games and finding new and unconventional ways of playing them, so I've enjoyed the challenge of figuring this stuff out!

Sure I'dd add GameVroom!
Thanks for all the work you've put into trying stuff out I'm sure some will find it useful!

Another app you could recommend btw is GameVRoom: It lacks a way to have the display follow your head atm, but it's on their roadmap and in it's current state, it allows SBS 3D and mapping gamepad to VR controllers and even allows gesture and motion control mapping to gamepad, so whenever they add headlock display options this app is gonna be the default best way to do 3DoF experiences without having to deal with Vorpx's questionable DRM. Its also $10 VS $40, so IMO if headtracking isn't a big deal to someone, this could be THE way to experience AHiT in VR on the cheap.

Sorry for the second comment: Steam comments have a character limit I guess lol.

Update on the open source headtracking: Due to AHiT not accepting split input and locking all input onto one device, Vorpx is the only way to have an all in one solution for control. However, OpenTrack with mouse emulation works pretty well, and mapping keyboard onto gamepad is super doable thanks to Steam Input making WASD to analogue stick pretty comfy; the only thing you lose is the ability to walk/tip-toe, which isn't huge and can probably be achieved still somehow.

THIS IS PECKIN TRIPPY-- i adore the info and tips you gave on how to adjust the settings using the dev console as well as the settings on the actual game menu! Thanks :D even though it can be a bit buggy sometimes, it still works AMAZINGLY. :) you deserve cookies for this /lh [[dont mind my account being PECK'ish btw, its phase stuff.]]

Yeah, 100% these kinds of methods are for people who aren't sensitive to VR motion sickness, as it's mostly using a bunch of methods to make a "fake VR" 3DOF experience. It's unfortunately gonna have a lot of jank.

Have you tried playing seated? It helps in my experience. You could also use Big Screen to play it on a big theater screen instead of gluing the screen to your face; still a pretty cool experience imo.

well now just someone has to change all hat in time maps to have specific camera locations for different rooms instead of hat kid head as default location so u can truly play this game in vr. I have been trying to get this game to run in vr but i just get motionsick with the headcamera. thanks alot for the guide tho.

Nice work! Hope you get the head tracking working!

Some updates with experimenting with different options:

IMO, Virtual Desktop is the best screen capturing software to use for SBS. It looks the best and in my experience, has the best performance. It's only 15$ on Steam and $20 on Quest and enables far more than just HatVR so it's pretty worth it IMO. The Quest version even has the perks of letting you emulate a xinput pad with your Occulus Touch controllers, so no need to fiddle with a bunch of opensource drivers from github if you want to accomplish that.

ALVR is also great if you want to use the Steam version of VD for just screen capturing and ALVR as a free streaming tool. Saves you about $5 and has a wired option, although it's annoying to set up.

Still need to figure out how to get headtracking emulated, but after that's settled then TBH Vorpx becomes kind of obsolete.
