// SUMMARY

UA: Born of Stone: All cities have +50 HP and +2.5 Defence. Iron resources are doubled. Start with Mining technology.

UU: Ironbreaker: stronger Longswordsman replacement. Gains a custom promotion granting 25% defence.

UB: Deep Mine: expensive. Replaces Forge, and requires a Workshop and an adjacent mountain. Adds +2 Production and +5% Production to the city, and +1 Gold to any Gold or Silver luxuries being worked. An awesome building that combines with Workshops to make cities into Production monsters, but hard to acquire in numbers.

// DISCUSSION

The Deep Mine is strong enough that you only need a couple of them to gain a big production edge over your rivals, making a Science victory a strong choice with Dwarfs, or possibly a Culture victory if you aim to grab the big Culture wonders first. When you consider that mountains also grant Observatories, you’ll find yourself generating a hell of a lot of science. If you're lucky enough to have a long mountain range near fertile land and a few luxuries, you can found many strong cities (as well as a lore-friendly mountain empire) and become very hard to stop. This is so situational however that I don't regard Dwarfs as being too strong; it'll never happen on an Archipelago map, for instance.

So to play Dwarfs well, you need to expand to the right places and develop your cities properly, which suits the Dwarven character. This is a builder race. The Dwarven UA (as it stands) provides a huge incentive to be a Domination civ, much like Japan, so that’s another approach.

As an AI, Thorgrim is a grumpy bastard. He won’t talk much, and isn’t easy to befriend, but once you’ve managed it he’ll be a steadfast ally, and fair in trade. His deceptiveness is even lower than Louen’s, so he won’t ♥♥♥♥ you over. If you declare war on him, however, he’ll never forgive you, so be prepared to finish what you start. You won't be able to take a couple of cities just to clip his wings and then make peace for the rest of the game, for instance.

Thorgrim will go for a mix of expansion and growth. He likes to build gold, production and science, and will go for a Science victory first and a Diplomatic victory second. He likes to build ranged units, infantry, military training and city defence, so can be a tough nut to crack, though he doesn’t get the production/defensive boost from Deep Mines since he doesn’t settle next to mountains (dunno if there’s a way to make the AI do that).

Using jhd's multiplayer mod manager, it crashes my game trying to load the main menu. I have tried the manager with several other civilization mods and they worked well. I know don't even if you can fix it or if works for others just reporting my experience.

I like this mod. I have only two issues, one is that it never gets past the starting music. It just replays it over and over again until I have to turn it off. Second, so far all the random maps seem to have little to no mountains. I am going to try an earth map since that map seems to have tons of mountains.
