Step One: Find a Topic
Most of the time, popular and helpful guides are made on niche topics, such as complex systems or helpful glitches. Obviously, you need to find a topic like these so you can farm steam points become popular and helpful. Me personally, I couldn't find an example worth talking about, so we'll talk about your guide in general terms. Make sure to do your research and fix your mistakes, or else you risk either the steam comments mob making fun of you, or worse, your guide dying because of "misinformation".

tl;dr: Fix your mistakes, do your research, have a niche topic to talk about.
Step Two: Write the thing
I'm gonna keep it a buck, I'm not a very good writer. But if you can get a point/step across clearly, you should be able to make a good guide. Also, pay close attention to your wording and typing to make sure that there's no mis-spellings and random rants. I am filling space so that this looks long and people will just read the summary instead.

tl;dr: Get your steps/points across clearly, try not to mis-spell things, stay on topic, and don't be like me who doesn't know enough about writing to fill space here.
Profit
Congratulations, you made a helpful guide among the memes!... What's that? Your guide was dead on arrival due to steam showing the unhelpful memes with undeserved awards instead of your helpful guide? It happens to the best of us, just try again later.
