The Absolute Basics - Rifles and Doors


This sequence is currently used by New Zealand's Armed Offenders Squad in the field.

This section assumes no additional tools such as grenades or C2. Consider it a foundational jumping-off point for exploring those options in conjunction with the demonstrated sequence.

So what's actually happening here?

The team is stacked on both sides of the door and ready to breach.

Man 2, the first man on the door’s handle side, will open the door. The team then waits three seconds for potential enemy reaction fire through the doorway.
In reality, this means stepping back from the door to avoid penetrative fire through the walls.

Man 1 will “pie” the opposite side of the room, carefully but quickly. Once he’s facing the door directly, it’s time to enter.

During the pie, and once Man 1 is ready, he will call out: “With me.”
Man 2 replies: “With you.”
This is the cue for Man 1 to enter.

Man 2 lowers their weapon briefly as they pass behind Man 1.

As Man 1 knows the pied side of the room best, he crosses and clears the dead ground in the close right corner.

To ensure Man 1 doesn’t get flanked from the left, Man 2 follows immediately, facing the far left corner, then peeling further left to clear the close left corner and finally behind the door..

Man 3 and Man 4 follow to back up 1 and 2 if either is hit.

The room is clear.

Actually you're right, first reaction from enemies(and people) is to blast rounds through the door when it opens, waiting three seconds gives time for a mag dump and a flash grenade.
