Intro
This is a short simple guide to fixing the issue in Splinter Cell Conviction where people using some game controllers are finding that the buttons are not mapped correctly in the game.

For example, pressing button B is doing the button A action and pressing button X is doing the button B action among others.

It seems the issue is caused by the game not correctly detecting the controller and defaulting to a Logitech controller, which is causing buttons to not be mapped as expected for the Xbox controller.

NOTE: This is not a fix I made myself and I don't claim it to be, nor am I seeking credit for it. Which is why I link to the fix page itself and don't just upload the files and link to them directly.

I made the guide just because I stumbled upon the issue myself and most sites I found would all recommend the x360ce fix, with many people commenting how that didn't work for them (it didn't for me either but this was likely the same reason I found NO fixes worked at first as explained below).
Delete the game settings file created by the game!
  • First thing you MUST do is go to %PROGRAMDATA%\Ubisoft\Conviction\ (just copy and paste it into windows explorer and hit enter).

  • Delete the file named ConvictionUserPC.ini - Note: this will reset ALL game settings to default and will need re-configuring afterwards.

A: This step I found was needed due to any fixes I applied NOT working at all (I tried x360ce, using Steam Input and even this one wouldn't work initially!), because the game had stored the wrong controller settings in this file it seems any fixes were doomed to fail. Once I deleted this file the fix worked.
Download and apply the fix
  • Download the file from RealRufoo Controller Fix[drive.google.com] (Note this is RealRufoo's own Google Drive link which they posted on this Reddit post

  • Place the two files from the download into <YOURINSTALL LOCATION>\steamapps\common\Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction\src\system - Overwrite the original ProfileDefaultsPC.ini file when asked.

A: Because there are entries for LOGITECH and SAITEK controllers which have been removed. When Conviction doesn't detect an X360 controller it falls back to the LOGITECH type. Hence the removal of those entries.

  • That's it! Hopefully your controller should now be working correctly and you can now reconfigure your other game settings which were reset to default.
