Linux/Steam Deck: Music Fix
By XelAttacK
The game has no music on Steam Deck, because Steam Deck's Linux has no MIDI installed. This guide will provide MIDI support to your Steam Deck.

In Desktop Mode:
  1. Install "Qsynth", the MIDI engine from "Discover" app store.

  2. Download the soundfont from the download section of this page: https://schristiancollins.com/generaluser.php and extract the sf2 file from the zip file you just downloaded.

  3. Run Qsynth and click "Setup" button. Go to the "Soudfonts" tab. Click "Open" and select the sf2 file.

  4. Back in the main interface, reduce the volume to 25% (it's very loud) then click "Options" and check: "Enable system tray" and "Start minimized to system tray"

  5. Edit game's launch options for having music in Gaming Mode:

    LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libcurl.so.4 flatpak run org.rncbc.qsynth & %command% ; killall -9 qsynth

Enjoy !

Edit: Thanks for such comments and rewards!
Edit2: This guide works for any game that uses General MIDI audio.
Edit3: I can't reply to your comments! If you need support, add me to your contacts, I will help.

for those having issues after following the instructions and sound output still not working, open Setup in Qsynth and look at the Audio tab. if the audio driver says "jack" try changing it to "alsa". this fixed for me.

Was working but for some reason recently stopped working

It works for me too. That was a not at all obvious fix. Amazing!

Thanks for this but unfortunately, having followed your instructions about how to get the music in this (classic and great!) game it doesn’t work when I play it on Steam Deck: sound effects and speech are fine but still no music.

Qsynth flashes a green circle (bottom left) as if music is playing when the Indy game runs on my setup (which I tested in desktop mode and have volume up and the main Qsynth setting at 25) but no music.

Would appreciate some guidance on getting it to play the game music if possible.
