Hi all,

on 4K displays with the "out of the box" configuration, CM will not look great. The following checklist may help make the game much better on your system:

1. On your first run select the Options menu and crank up all graphic settings to Best if your computer was purchased sometime after 2014. Be sure to select the 'Desktop' option for the resolution.
2. Go to the Steam folder for the game e.g. Z:\Steam\steamapps\common\Combat Mission - Battle for Normandy
3. Locate the file "display size.txt" (mind there needs to be an space between "display" and "size"
4. If it is not there, create it with notepad or your favourite text editor. It should contain a single line with the following numbers

w h 0

where 'w' stands for the width of your desktop resolution and 'h' for the height of your desktop resolution. On my system, it reads

3840 2160 0

5. Under Windows 11 do the following:
a/ right-click on the game executable, "CM Normandy.exe"
b/ select Properties
c/ navigate to the "Compatibility" tab
d/ click on "Change high DPI settings..."
e/ click on the checkbox "Override high DPI scaling behaviour. Scaling performed by:"
d/ from the drop-down box select "Application".

And the game will display on the desktop resolution. UI elements will be small though since CM does not do UI scaling at all. Windows scaling functions just scale up the whole screen buffer, since the CM engine doesn't know it needs to explain to Windows how to treat it.

Thanks a bunch for this tip. I couldn't figure out why the game looked awful on my 4K widescreen despite telling to run with desktop resolution.
