Setting up the Server
1. In Steam, click the drop down box labeled Games, Software, and Tools. Make sure the Tools option is checked.

2. Once that is complete you should be able to see the Battle Cry of Freedom – Dedicated Server listed in your library. Click on it and click Install.

3. Locate the Battle Cry of Freedom – Dedicated Server folder. This should be located in your Steam folder. For example:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Battle Cry of Freedom - Dedicated Server

4. Open the ServerConfiguration.ini file to identify the default ports that your computer will need to be open to. Directions for opening ports on your computer can be found here[support.video.ibm.com].

Default:

5. You will also need to open ports on your router, otherwise you will be the only person who can enter the server. Identify which router you have and Google the directions to log into the router if you do not know how. Google search for opening ports on your router can be searched here[www.google.com].
Editing the Settings on Your Server
The developers of the game made the configuration file very easy to manage. Reading through the file will explain what each section is for and how to adjust it. A few examples are listed below.

1. Open the Server Configuration.ini file. The name of the server and welcome message can be changed here:

The server name is what people will see on the Battle Cry of Freedom server list when they log into the game. The welcome message is the message they will see when entering a map on your server.

2. Passwords can be set up for entering the server and for admins. Leaving the server password blank means there will be no password to enter the server.

*You will want to log in with the admin password in order to make adjustments in the game*

3. Maps and map rotations can be a little challenging. Maps are saved to your hard drive once you play them or if someone sends you the file. Maps are located in the Custom Maps folder and they are a JSON file.

Map rotations for your server can be set up here:

Read through all of the directions to ensure you are setting the maps up correctly. If you leave it as default, you will play through the maps you have in some random order.
Default:
Launching the Server
1. In the Battle Cry of Freedom – Dedicated Server folder click on the Start Server batch file.

2. Your server should appear on the Battle Cry of Freedom server list.

You will need to research (Google) on how to fix it based on your router. It took me a minute to figure out mine to ensure they were open. I believe there is something in the directions telling you to do this.

It means there is an issue with your ports or firewalls.

Type in an admin password in the config file. When you go to the server list in the game, enter the admin password in the password box, then click join.
