Where WinWang
Hive soldiers are decent, esp early game. 200 HP head is roughly the same as a human wearing a High/Spec-grade Masked Helm, this is a buff when everyone starts naked. Hivers have 0.3 bleed rate which gives leniency around bleeding to KO point/death, esp for a newb still learning that mechanic. Even in late game they're roughly equivalent to humans thanks to CMS buff, despite lack of a head slot.
Scorchlanders are the fastest race early game, they're the best start imo.
As for leaving Mongrel, yeah just make sure you all have wooden sandals, it helps with movement speed. Having too much gear does lower your movement speed which is anther reason to ditch the fragment axe. I personally just like to make a save and sprint out of there, but you can play it more cautious and sneak too for safety. The Fogmen have usually pretty big hordes out patrolling, but they aren't great in my experience at seeing sneaking players.
If you are strongly in need of Chad you could always try 'importing' your game from the main menu, which will reset the world state. Chad will then be kinda forced to respawn giving you another shot at grabbing him.
