Welcome back, fellow gamers! In today's video, we're going to be playing the highly anticipated 2023 Resident Evil 4 demo, which has recently been released by Capcom. In this video, I'll be giving you an overview of the game's graphics settings, including some issues that arise when the Temporal Anti-Aliasing (TAA) is turned off. But before we get started, let me share my personal opinion on the TAA.

Now, for those of you who may not know what TAA is, it's an anti-aliasing technique used to smooth out jagged edges in video games and to blend pixels together using a jittering effect, which is used to cover up graphical defects in modern games that use deferred rendering. However TAA can excessively blur the image and causes a ghosting effect (usually perceived as a light motion blur) that can be distracting, especially when playing fast-paced games and first-person shooters like Resident Evil 4. I prefer using other forms of anti-aliasing that don't blur the image, such as MSAA or CMAA2 (when you can use these two together they really do a good job).

Moving on, let's take a look at the graphics options available in the 2023 Resident Evil 4 demo. The game offers a wide range of settings that can be adjusted to suit your system's specifications and your personal preferences. These include resolution, texture quality, shadow quality, depth of field, motion blur, and more. The game also included some options that are very abnormal, and very welcome, such as the ability to enable/disable dismemberment and disable some of the more graphically demanding lighting options. The total amount of options presented was a pleasant surprise to me, and I appreciated having that much control over the game's settings without needing to edit config files.

One thing that caught my attention when testing the graphics settings was the graphical issues when TAA was turned off. The lens distortion option creates a weird pattern that is very visible when there's a light nearby, and which looks very strange when the camera is moving. There's also obvious dithering in some of the shadows that would normally be blended out by the TAA, and while it wasn't very noticeable Leon's hair was dithered as well (villagers also had dithered hair and beards, and their beards were particularly bad looking).

Throughout the video series, I'll be sharing my thoughts on the gameplay, graphics, and overall experience of the demo. I'll also be providing tips and tricks on how to navigate through the game's various challenges and overcome its obstacles. So, if you're a fan of the Resident Evil franchise or just looking for a spooky, adrenaline-pumping game to play, be sure to tune in!

As we begin the first part of the video series, I'm immediately struck by the game's atmosphere. The forest is dark and foreboding, with trees towering overhead and the sound of insects buzzing in the background. The graphics reasonably impressive, with realistic textures and lighting that really immerse you in the environment, and the HDR effect looks good where light sources are visible.
