Keyboard Settings
First of all, from a certain point, you HAVE to use both of your hands to be able to catch the notes.

Settings are available in customizaton menu.

You should use W, A, S, D and direction keys at the same time. So make sure that you set the keys correctly like this.

Slide notes are kinda problematic for keyboard.

It's kinda hard to catch the slide notes when they point at the same way but before we get into that, let me show you the settings. You will only need the pointed keys. I put an "X" on the useless ones.

So, we only need the first 2 key binds to play. You will put your two fingers on Q and E, one finger on the C - V to catch the same-way-slides. I know it sounds complicated but if you try it yourself, you'll figure out how to do it. Note: They are my customized settings and i choose them because it's easier for my fingers but you can find your own settings by trying. Just don't forget to set 4 keys on the left side of your keyboard for slide notes.

For example: When you see a left-left slide note, you have to press Q+C at the same time. It may be hard at the beginning but it will get easier as you practice.

♥ Tip: You can use these fingers for slide note keys:
- For left slide: Q: Fourth finger
- For right slide: E: Third finger
- For left slide (2): C: First finger
- For right slide (2): V: First finger

And the best part is, it doesn't matter which way they look (unless they point the same way like left-left), you can just press Q+E and it will be correct! So you dont have to worry about their way, which makes it easier to focus on the other (and harder) notes.

-> Best songs to practice slide notes: Cat Food (Extreme-Extra Extreme), Tengaku (Extreme [my fav vocaloid song btw]

Synchronized Notes

I think this is the hardest thing to do on keyboard. Some keyboards don't catch 3 synchronized notes (like my keyboard). So you need to use the W, A, S, D side to catch one note for 3-synchronized ones. For example when you see a left, right, up triple; you should do the left and right on direction keys and up one with W key.

It's hard to do it, I agree. But there are certain combinations that show up the most, if you can memorize them you can do the triple notes automatically.

-> Best songs to practice triple notes: The Snow White Princess is (Extra-Extreme), Deep City Underground (Extra-Extreme)

//Quadruplet notes are sooooooo damn easy on keyboard. All you need to do is to set your space key for quadruplet notes like this.

By doing that, you can easily catch the quadruplet notes and you don't have to move your fingers too far. You can do it with your thumb.

-> Best song to practice quadruplet notes: Close and Open, Demons and The Dead (Extreme-Extra Extreme)
Extreme / Extra - Extreme Song Essentials
As you might already see, this guide is specialised for highest levels in the game. Because you need the most tricks and skills for extreme levels.

Almost all tricks and instructional contents are made for gamepad. So I'll show you the most important keyboard tricks for Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Megamix+.

Slide Notes

When they come after and after, they can be such a trouble. Just be careful with the notes that point the same way so you can catch them with Q+C or E+V combo. Don't lift your finger from C and V side of keyboard.

If you set your slide note keys close to each other, you can make the right-left-right-left combos easily. Thats why I recommend to bind Q - E and C - V keys. You can see the difference when you try it yourself.

Fast Sequential Notes

I personally HATE sequential notes because once you lose the track of notes, you will miss all the notes after. You need to focus on the rhythm of the song and press carefully, NOT RANDOMLY. I do this mistake too often and end up failing the song. :3

If you can't catch the notes because your fingers are too slow, which is totally normal especially when you try to get used to play with keyboard, you can use both sides of your keyboard to catch the fast sequentials.

For example: If there are sequential left-up notes, you can use W for up notes and left direction key for left notes so you can catch them quickly.

But remember: The point is NOT being super fast. The point is to CATCH THE RHYTHM. Try to listen the beat and drums, they mostly synchronized with them.

-> Best songs to practice: This Is the Happiness and Peace of Mind Committee (Extreme), Systematic Love (Extreme), Thousand Year Solo (Extra-Extreme)

Fast Synchronized Notes

For these notes, it might be hard to re-position your fingers especially during high-bpm songs. You can play those songs in practice mode and start over until your fingers' muscles memorize those synchronized notes.

-> Best songs to practice: Dance of Many (Extra-Extreme), Colorful x Sexy (Extra-Extreme)

Hold Notes and Bonus

As you know, hold notes give you extra points to fill the bar and help you to get higher %'s.

It's so easy to gain max bonuses with your keyboard since you play with more than 6 fingers lol. When you see a double hold note, you can catch the other 2 notes with W, A, S, D keys. By doing that, you can get much higher scores since almost every song in extreme levels gives you the opportunity to gain lots of bonus points by holding more than 2 or 3 even 4 notes sometimes.

Songs With Changing Rhythm

These songs are quite cringe, you follow the rhythm and suddenly they get slower/faster and you lose your combo streak for no reason. There is no certain way to beat this, you have to know when the song slows down. To carry your combo streak, watch the arrows on notes carefully to adjust timing.

-> Best songs to practice: Francisca (Extra-Extreme), Absolunote (Extreme), Jitterbug (Choose any level, this song is cringe on every level)
Keyboard Recommendations
The most important thing you need for a keyboard is,

Your keyboard should have BIG size of direction keys like this:

If you have small direction keys, it will be almost impossible to play the game on higher levels. These small direction keys mostly belong to laptops.

If you want to play even better, you can buy mechanical keyboards with low response time. They have soft keys and easier to hit fast notes.

Why You Should Play The Game With A Keyboard?
Almost all of the Hatsune Miku rhythm games are made for different consoles and they are desinged to play with a controller/switch.

But I played MStar for 7 years straight and I am not comfortable with controllers for rhythm games.

So when MStar shutted their TR servers down completely, I started to look for a new rhythm game but none of them has satisfied me as much as Hatsune Miku games.

But the problem is, I couldn't play the game with controller because I'm too unfamiliar with it. I could only play hard level songs and that made me sad because I was a monster on MStar. I could play any songs at the hardest level neo-classic mode.

Then I tried to use my keyboard and everything changed since then. Now I can play almost every song (except 1 or 2 10 level songs) in the game thanks to my keyboard.

The funny thing is I see people on YouTube playing with their keyboards as a "challenge" because it's way more harder than playing with a controller. But I think it's all about getting used to it.

I find it easier to catch the fast notes with keyboard because it's like having the full control on every key/note. The tricky part is the slide notes and I gave lots of tips about them so it should be helpful.

I'll try to download one of my gameplays with this guide so you can see my performance with a keyboard.

I hope you could find helpful informations and tips in this guide. If you want to ask anything, you can add and dm me anytime. I'll try to help as much as I can.

Have a nice day, lovely vocaloid fans! ♥♥

I use IJKL and WASD for regular inputs, Q/U for slide left, E/O for slide right, and spacebar for 4-chord. I can't really use a mechanical keyboard at the moment because mine broke though :(

8456 for arrows and 79 for sliders, at least sliders facing the same wey haven´t been an issue for me

Thanks for this. For those that have small arrow keys, my setup is both W,A,S,D and I,J,K,L for triangle, square, cross, circle respectively. Then I have my left slide on Q and U, and my right slide on E and O (keeping the same layout for both hands). And the quad on space bar obviously
