Bugs & Solution videos - ACM Overhaul Mod v6.2

This guide features a collection of videos that I made during my full run through Aliens Colonial Marines in 2023 using the Overhaul Mod Version 6.2. I really enjoyed this mod but there were some places that almost made me fail the run and I wanted to share how I made it past those bugs and glitches.

This guide also includes how to install and mod the game up to version 6.2. This information is available in other videos as well but this was how I got the game up and running. There might also be other bugs in the game using the Overhaul mod but these were the ones I ran into.

A big thank you goes out to TemplarGFX who is the creator of the Overhaul mod. Great work and much appreciated.

Introduction - What can this guide help with?
Hello gamers.

I made this guide in order to hopefully help people who are playing through Aliens Colonial Marines in 2023 or later using the ACM Overhaul mod by TemplarGFX. I had never played the game before using this mod and I made it through the entire campaign. The version I used was 6.2 and I played it on Win10.

Even though I enjoyed my run of the game I did hit problems, bugs and glitches. Some of them minor but some of them major enough that they could potentially end a run. I made these videos in order to help gamers through the problems I ran into.

The guide will have the following content.
  • How to install the game and how to add the Overhaul mod
  • Chapter specific videos dealing with bugs/problems & solutions

Installation & Modding
Installing the game and modding it - Overhaul mod Version 6.2

I had never played Aliens Colonial Marines before my run using the Overhaul mod. I will go through how to either install the game or how to prepare a previous installed game before modding it.

  • Installing the game / preparing a previous installation
  • Finding and installing the Overhaul 6.0 version and upgrading to 6.2. (02:17 into the video)

Bugs & Solutions - Mission 4: No Hope in Hadley's
Mission 4: No Hope in Hadley's
During mission 4 I ran into the first set of bugs that really made me think the game was broken.

The video guide deals with two major problems/bugs.

  • The first one had to do with an alien that could not be seen but still held up the game in Operations. (02:50 into the video)
  • Bonus information added. How to place a sentry turret. (01:35 into the video)
  • The second was a corridor where the enemies never stopped spawning and the checkpoint was on the other side. (04:35 into the video)

Mission 6: For Bella
During mission 6 I ran into a bug that made me have to replay an area in order to trigger a NPC interaction needed to keep playing.

The video guide deals with how to not trigger the bug and what the bug is.

  • The Weyland Yutani area where the bug can be triggered. (00:47 into the video)
  • How to deal with turrets and what it is that can go wrong with them. (01:27 into the video)

Bugs & Solutions - Mission 9: Hope in Hadley's
Mission 9: Hope in Hadley's
During mission 9 I ran into a bug that made me have to replay the entire mission from the start. This is annoying because the first section of this mission can be very tricky. Lots of enemies and the friendly NPCs are not really helping.

The video guide deals with how to not trigger the bug and what this campaign breaking bug is.

In short you must not die or save and exit before surviving the battle in the vehicle bay. The checkpoint just before the vehicle bay fight can be bugged and then you are forced to replay the mission.

I will also add some pointers that might help you survive the vehicle bay fight and the later defence mission after and during re-fueling of the ship.

  • The bugged checkpoint area just before the vehicle bay. (00:39 into the video)
  • Restarting the mission and how you can have two turrets. (03:00 into the video)
  • How the mission should look when everything is OK. (05:13 into the video)
  • How to survive in the vehicle bay. Not heroic but practical. (05:58 into the video)
  • How to survive the horrible defence mission re-fueling the ship. (07:31 into the video)
  • My final strategy for re-fueling and surviving the ship area. (09:48 into the video)

Summary
I hope these videos might help gamers to get through the campaign of Aliens Colonial Marines. Overall I liked this game and the Overhaul Mod was impressive. I would however say that you kind of have to go into this expecting that things might be a bit unstable and buggy.

I also really liked that this mod fixed a lot of things but still made it possible to unlock achievements!

I've encountered another ACMO bug and am wondering if you (or anybody else) has a fix. At some point (after the Bela mission), doors with green lights (which I should be able to open) no longer yield a "Press ... to open" prompt. Instead, the only prompt I get is the prompt to weld them shut. To open them, I must weld them shut, and then cut them open. They they open normally. Not as game-breaking as the other bugs you've described (all of which I've encounterd), but it makes for very tedious gameplay.
