General information

Ruins are a valuable source of

data cores (+20% for research for a particular field)
unique technology
credits (100-700 BC)
ships (see below)
leaders of all kind
information about sectors
information about nearby systems

To maximize your chance to find something, always explore with a leader who has the Explorer perk (Expert level with +30% finding chance) and a survey-ship has to be part of the fleet (another +10% chance). If your leader has Explorer at Advanced-level or higher, then you can search the ruin twice. In case you use "just" a ship to explore, then you will most likely get "nothing" from the attempt. The 'Galactic relic collection'-wonder gives an additional 10% chance of finding something.

Sometimes ruins are protected by space-monsters. This is also a good indicator, that you as conqueror will be the very first to loot this ruin.
Ruins in systems within empire-borders are usually already checked, but yield at least some money.
There is also a special skill, which will give you at least BC instead of nothing (TODO).

Ruin levels

white: was never searched by the player
yellow: searched once; if it can be explored again then the icon is fully saturated, else the yellow is a bit dimmed
red: was searched twice - can't be searched again

Note

There is at least "The Punisher" (battleship with chaos-chain), but I have taken no screenshot.
And other ships as well. Skimming the assets already revealed a bit.

Also some observations are discussable: for instance the amount of gained BCs. This is the range I could observe.

Many thanks for the reply, kemg.thesoulless. On what difficulty level you did play when you found all these ships? It is possible, that the catch in ruins depends on the difficulty level.

First play through and after few ruins i alrady have Mother ship, Condor and star hammer. however my ship attack bonuses (attack and dense) are way lower. I guess this is because of technology?

morkmail, are you sure you can still have battlehsips from ruins? It was the case previously, but in 70+ hours of recent play I've never got one. Neither I have seen Mothership or Punisher in AI fleets. I think devs removed battleships from the loot list as an early battleship makes the game too easy. No?

Leader's Exploration skill must be Expert level to search ruins twice. Otherwise, nice guide.

Is there any list of Unique tech you can find? Ive found Matter Streamer, Photon torpedos, Chaos chain and adamantium armour. Is that it? (by the way, I found the Punisher but it doesnt have a Chaos Chain)

First, thank you for the reply. I never expected that after two years someone would actually check in again.
Second: Sorry, I never watch videos. But, how did you mod it? Maybe I should check your stuff. Is there a guide to add this? As far as I know there is no official developer support for modding. But I disassembled once some of the files just to see how the game is written. If you could lead me how to "do stuff", I would be glad. I have some software development background.

I don't know if I am a bit too obsessed with the ruins. But I spy always on Nova and hope they activated their first evolutions-space culture-pick, so that you can learn about all remaining locations of ruin planets. And then visit each of them with the bunched up-leader group.
