Description How it Works!
  • Who plays SnowRunner knows that sometimes we have boring moments being stuck more often than driving but that's really the focus of the game, but that I think sometimes makes the game a little frustrating and boring!
  • This could easily be more enjoyable for some players if there is a difficulty setting mode!
  • I'll show how can improve the grip by modifying some values with Notepad!

Step 1 - Locate the Installation Folder!
  • Go to Library in the Steam App!
  • Right click on the Game!
  • Then follow: Manage-Browse Local Files!

Step 2 - Locate the ''initial.pak'' File!
  • Follow - Preload : Paks : Client : initial.pak!
  • Open ''initial.pak'' file needs WinRar or similar!

Step 3 - Locate the ''trucks.xml'' File!
  • Follow - Media : Templates : Trucks.xml!
  • Open ''Trucks.xml'' file with Notepad or similar!

Step 4 - Locate and Change Values!
  • There are 11 different types of tires and characteristics of each one!
  • The Red Arrows in the image indicate the values to modify!
  • Important: Do not increase the values too much, this could create too much grip and the truck will not move!
  • There is a Link at the bottom of the page with the original file and mine edited!

Step 5 - How to Choose Values!
  • Change the values modestly, I suggest doubling the lower values and increasing the higher values by 50% to 70%!
  • I've been using the values in the image below for a long time!
  • After modifying close the window save the file and that's it!
  • There is a Link at the bottom of the page with the original file and mine edited!

Step 6 - Important Notes!
  • Backup your Original ''Trucks.xml'' File!
  • Once you have your file modified, save a backup of it too!
  • Why Backups: When the game receives an update on Steam it will replace your modified file with the original one!
  • After the Update you just need to replace the file!
  • To replace the Original file with the Modified one just open the ''initial.pak'' file with Winrar then follow Media-Templates and drag or paste and replace, follow Step 3!

Notes!
  • After downloading delete the title, leaving only trucks.xml
  • I hope this was reliable and helpful!
  • Any questions, leave them in the comments!

Extracting the entire initial.pak to replace trucks.xml and repack it would be an idea if it werent for the fact that .pak isn't a compression format. So I guess I'll just keep on struggling with two trucks winching one another.

I have also tried extracting just trucks.xml, editing it, and could save it now, but when I tried to copy it back into initial.pak it wouldn't let me, saying: "operation not supported".

Love how detailed you are in explaining this, but they changed things in the meantime. The folder structure is different, no problem, could still locate trucks.xml inside the initial.pak. Editing however gave me a 'read only' error even though I unchecked read only in initial.pak file properties and re-opened initial.pak. I'm using 7-zip and using the 'edit' function on trucks.xml inside initial.pak which opens trucks.xml in notepad.

Yo homie, for DLC tires you should make some too, there's so manny you gotta do them independently, hours on end

this is needed, much appreciated. I don't hav 30 mins to sit there spinning gaining 1/8" a min with nothing to winch in sight.

Instead of opening _templates go to: _dlc --> dlc_11 --> classes --> wheels

that path appears to be the Tires & Rims DLC

Nevermind i found it, it seems to be located in the DLC folder and each wheel needs to edited seperately..
Maybe if you feel like it, you could add it into your guide as well :)

Thanks alot for your guide!
Has anyone found values for the DLC wheels? Or for some DLC trucks? Since some trucks come with their own wheels that i would like to be a bit more usable. I tried looking into some paths but couldnt find anything unfortunately.
