How to play your own Custom Maps with friends
By Der alte Ding (Pablo Escanor)
I think we are all familiar with the struggle. You have created your very own amazing custom Map and finally persuaded your only friend to play it with you. But just sending him the file didnt work. The fix is ridiculously easy and does NOT require any modding. I stumbled across this on some ancient Website after digging for ages so i thought why not save you the time.

[Bonus] explains how you add custom maps in general

This works for extreme, modded(unofficial Crusader Patch) and vanilla Stronghold Crusader

Finding and sending your map
Against expectation your custom maps are NOWHERE to be found in your Steamfolder, because that would be too easy. Instead they are - just like your savegames - located in a folder in the documents section of your explorer.

1.Open the explorer
2.Select Documents
3.Open the Stronghold Crusader Folder
4.Click on maps (MapsExtreme if its an extreme Map)
5.Select your map and send it to your friend (via Discord for example) (
How to make them playable for you and your friend
You and your friend now both have the map. Amazing. So you are ready to play. Right?
No, lmao. Your friend has a different version of the map, so if you were to try to play it with him, the preview minimap would be blank and the game would freeze if u tried to start a match.

So how do you get the same version?

Just download the very map you sent to him.

Yeah thats it.
[Bonus]How do you actually add maps to your ingame maps selection
Since there is no real Steam modding Workshop you have to manually "modify" your game files, if you want to add anything to the base game. Many are probably familiar with the process from other games like Minecraft.

Because we want to add a map, we need to locate the folder for maps.

1.Open your explorer
2.Go to where your steam games/Stronghold are/is installed (SSD/SSHD/HDD)
3.Open programs(x86)
4.Open Steam/whatever you called it (the folder)
5.Open steamapps
6.Open common
7.Open Stronghold Crusader Extreme
8.Open maps for vanilla / open mapsExtreme for extreme
9.Add your map to the folder (copy+paste/dragging it in there)

Thats all there is to it. Enjoy.
