Crawler sources
There seems to be handful of ways how crawlers get on your ship.
  • Eggs. Most obvious one is the egg cracking open with crawler horde.
  • Other egg base source is various other lifeforms coming from eggs, humans to be precise. They do not cause immediate threat but later on they might die with crawlers bursting out of their chest.
  • Last known source is humans whom have had crawler attached. They might share same future as their egg based "friends".

One of the ways to deal with alien eggs is to dump them outside as soon as possible. Crawlers can survive in vacuum for long time so they must be fought. Other softer lifeforms should be ready for burgers with some processing. Next section deals with the last know source, i.e. face hugged colonists.
Quarantine
So, one of your passengers brought on some creepy crawlies and now Andre here has crawler attached to his face. Andre has too thick skull for mind control or maybe your local AI hasn't prioritized that tect yet. No worries. You have two options:
  • Let him wander until crawler starves and falls of. However this may have future consequences, crawler might lay eggs into Andre and later on new crawler horde burst out of his chest.
  • More permanent solution is to deal with crawler and its host. So they both must be processed. This is where quarantine (or mind control) comes into play.

Quarantine unfortunate Andre and other affected passengers and start waiting.
Because you can't control them you must wait until they wander into room where they can be locked. Either let them have ultimate diet or make room incompatible with life. Crawler will starve first and host should follow shortly after. Only thing left to do is fry some burgers for survivors.

Once you get Door Permissions set up most of the doors to disallow enemies. This prevents them from just roaming around. Turn off "Biological" too when Crawlers are involved, and you can keep organics out of the fight.

An alternative solution is to keep in mind that they are walking. If you use an explosive charge to take out a small section separating them from your main ship, then they cannot walk over and you can fly away or use energy rifles to take them out.

They also grow exponentially angled at your number of droids and colonists. Depending on difficulty it seems to be 1:1.3, so if you have 20 bots they'll have about 26 crawlers.
