THE TRUE HOWL OF IRON EXPERIENCE

Unlock all achievements in the game.

Some players have reported not getting the final Howl of Iron achievement. This guide will show you how to obtain The True Howl of Iron Experience and complete your achievement collection.

STEP 1.

Restart the game
Start a new game
If the achievement has not unlocked during the initial cutscene, try triggering again an achievement (e.g. throw yourself into the water before the first jump to retrigger King of the Swamp)
If that also didn't work, go to STEP 2.

Sometimes the achievement bugs and does not unlock after getting the last one. Restarting a new game and/or triggering again an achievement might fix it.

STEP 2.

Go to your Library and right click on Howl of Iron.
Open Howl of Iron in your File Browser.
Howl of Iron > Manage > Browse local files
(If you know where steamapps is, you can search through your File Browser directly)
Search for the file "AchievementsSave.sav"
Howl of Iron > HowlOfIron (folder) > Content > AchievementsSave.sav
(If you know where steamapps is, you can search through your File Browser directly)

This file contains the data of all achievements marked as unlocked except The True Howl of Iron Experience. You can replace it with your own AchievementsSave.sav to ensure it unlocks.
Copy that file to your desktop
Type %appdata% in the Windows Search Bar. The file will only appear when you complete the search
(The green square is your username)
Once again, search for the file "AchievementsSave.sav"
AppData > Local > HowlOfIron > Saved > SaveGames > AchievementsSave.sav
(The green square is your username)
Replace that file with the one saved in your desktop
Repeat STEP 1. The achievement will now unlock

Ah I'm glad to hear you figured that one out, and thanks for the update about the state of development. I have now tried using your provided Achievement.sav as detailed in Step 2 but alas, the achievement still will not unlock.

I even tried verifying local files again, deleted my save entirely, speed running the game with your sav file and the achievement still will not unlock.

Looks like it might need to be a SAM job in this case.

@jcfarsight Good news: It was as you said. The file was not added to the build of the latest patch. Because of this, it disappeared on the newest public build. Thanks for pointing it out! You should be able to get the achievement now.

As to fixing the issue not causing the achievement to unlock, I am afraid is not going to be possible. We spent a week trying to fix it to no avail. The bug appeared on the Steam build, but not in the in-game editor, so we do not know what causes it (all achievements were obtainable before compiling the build). Now, the game is closed and all students are looking for work elsewhere. That is why I made this guide as a final countermeasure.

Please let me know if you were finally able to get the achievement. Cheers

Unfortunately I've just double checked and there's definitely nothing there. I've even ensured that hidden files are shown just in case.

It's worth noting that my Steam library is not in C drive if that makes a difference (I assume it shouldn't). My path to your directory is H:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Howl of Iron\HowlOfIron\Content

I've re-validated files, no success. Completely uninstalled and reinstalled the game, still nothing.

Is that file definitely part of your public build artifact? My build ID is 10505349.

I can use SAM to unlock the achievement but would love to unlock it legitimately (especially if it helps other people to be able to unlock it more easily too).

If the game is still able to be maintained by the team, would it be worth reviewing how/where this achievement is unlocked in the code and see if it could be tweaked to be more reliable?

@jcfarsight The "AchievementsSave.sav" file has to be there, as it was placed there by us on top of the build. Double check the directory, just like in the image:

SteamLibrary > steamapps > common > Howl of Iron > HowlOfIron > Content

You can always try to verify integry of game files in case it was somehow deleted (Right Click game, then Properties > Local Files).

If that doesn't work, you can unlock the achievement with SAM if you already have the program in your PC.

If none of these options help you, comment here again and I will upload the file and post a link for you to download it.

Thanks for the great game. Unfortunately I can't unlock the final achievement, and Step 1 of this guide didn't solve it.
As for Step 2, my Content folder doesn't contain an 'AchievementsSave.sav' file so I can't replace the version in my appdata folder.

I tried moving that appdata AchievementsSave.sav out, starting the game/new game, closing the game and putting it back in again but that also didn't solve it.

Any more ideas?
