Witcher 3 Essential Tips For Becoming A True Wizard
You'll need some Witcher 3 tips for this huge open world. From mastering The Witcher 3 combat system to exploring hundreds of quests, contracts, scavenger hunts and more. Without a few Witcher 3 tips to guide you, the game can quickly become a scary experience if you don't prepare properly.

Wizards are known for taking their time to study an enemy before facing him, taking advantage of everything at their disposal and trying to find the best way to do their job. These Witcher 3 tips follow that tradition and should give you a solid foundation in this game.
Don't Underestimate Alchemy

Alchemy is vital to a wizard, so mastering it is one of the most important tips in The Witcher 3. Most of the loot you'll gather during your travels will likely have a purpose later, and it's wise to spend a few minutes on the alchemy tab and check available recipes. From here, you can create oils for your weapons, bombs and potions.

More recipes will be available for purchase from merchants and as withdrawals, so always keep an eye on them. Swords and signs are important, of course, but never underestimate the use of additional potions or tools before and during combat.
Stay On The Road When Using Carpeado
Carpeado is probably your best partner in the game, although it can be tiring to always keep an eye on your stamina if you're galloping. If you're on a road, however, a top Witcher 3 tip is to double-tap the designated button and the horse will continue to advance on its own. Just move left or right every now and then to keep yourself on track, and the rest will be automatic with no loss of stamina.
Invest In The Quen Sign
Each sign (or Witcher's spells) has a purpose in The Witcher 3, and you'll quickly learn how to make the most of them in battle. Quen, in particular, can be extremely useful during fights when you gain the Explosive Shield ability. This will turn him into a protective field around Geralt, allowing him to defend against attacks while dealing damage with a KO chance.

Explosive Shield is recommended for being at the XNUMXst skill level as it won't be too difficult to get at the very beginning. But the second ability in the Quen tree, called Active Shield, is an interesting alternate mode. It provides a much larger area of protection and, if you upgrade it, it will heal Geralt, depending on how much damage he absorbed per attack. He also no longer uses stamina while activated.
And It's Worth Updating Axii Too
There are a number of upgrade options available for your magic, but in addition to Quen, another tip from Witcher 3 is to focus on the sign Axii. Using Axii on enemies in combat will temporarily stun them, allowing you to hit one or two heavy attacks while they're defenseless, or ignore them and focus on the others if there's a group attacking.

Most importantly, the Axii can be used in conversations to influence other people's actions, opening up new options to avoid fighting people or having to pay them. Basically, Axii can work as a high Charisma score in other RPGs and give you an edge over people in important situations. If you can avoid a fight, why not?
Make Oils! Make Lots Of Oils!
Oils are basically momentary upgrades that you can apply to weapons beyond your standard stats and have a specific purpose. Most of them will increase the effectiveness of their swords against one type of enemy, with strengths and weaknesses playing a big part. So an important Witcher 3 tip is to always have some in your inventory, as you never know when you'll need the extra edge against a dangerous enemy.
Always See The Local Quest Board
Whenever you arrive in a new town, a good Witcher 3 tip is to always check the local message boards. Not just for new contracts and side quests, but also as a way to unlock new question marks to investigate on the map or even useful information about your current objectives. At worst, you always read a silly story about the city and its residents.

Learn The Difference Between Dodge And Roll
You don't need anyone to tell you to roll and dodge two different actions, but in The Witcher 3, there's a fundamental difference in when you choose to use them. Whenever Geralt dodges, he makes a short, quick move in the direction you press the dodge button simultaneously. The Roll action is similar, but you cover more ground and the animation takes longer before it's back on its feet.

Both are great for melee combat, but if you're fighting a thug or a choke, dodging can give you the small window you need to counterattack when your enemy misses. Rolling works best when you face larger enemies, who often have more blurred attacks, or ones that cover a wider area with each hit, such as Golems. Practicing both moves and learning enemy patterns is key to succeeding in your contracts.
Trimming Can Save Your Life
Speaking of combat, Geralt can also perform a parry that may or may not work depending on the enemy, but it's still worth your attention. During fights, the white wolf can block attacks with its swords. Depending on the timing, he might unleash a parry and negate all damage. The trick is when to do it.

If you're having trouble timing a good defense, a good tip from Witcher 3 is that while you're holding down the block button, wait until an enemy's name turns red (an indicator that he's about to cast an attack), lift your finger and press it again before hitting the blow. Keep in mind that not everything can be defended, and this is best used with enemies of similar or less height than Geralt.
Use The Benches And Sharpening And Sharpening Stones
Armory tables and whetstones are often found near blacksmiths and armorers. These two small stations can be activated for free and provide a 20% boost to armor and weapons for 15 minutes. Always be sure to pass and activate them before a difficult battle or mission.
Buy A Carpeado Bag
The weight limit is a crucial element in The Witcher 3, and treating it sloppily can cause Geralt painfully slow walks. Fortunately, a great tip from Witcher 3 is that Carpeado can help. Saddlebags are not easy to find, but they are worth the investment to increase your stock limit from the start.

If you're playing The Witcher 3 for the first time, look for a horse racing quest near Raven's Perch where you'll get one as a reward. It will help you a lot, so don't let it go (like I did).
You Can Change Your Style
Okay, it's not exactly a Witcher 3 tip, but you'll do it all the time: when you get to Novigrad (and other major cities as well), look for a store that has giant scissors at the front door. For a small fee, a barber will change Geralt's hair and beard style independently, with different options available if you activate the corresponding free DLC. This is great for giving Geralt a new look or for trimming his beard whenever it gets too long after a few weeks in the game.
Save Your Game Regularly
Your progress is automatically saved after each completed objective and at various other checkpoints as you do your quests, but due to the unpredictability of events in the world, it's risky to rely on it while exploring. So an important tip from Witcher 3 is that if you're not following a specific quest, make sure you do regular manual saves. That way you won't lose much progress if you get ambushed or accidentally fall off a cliff.
Keep Health High
Your vitality only regenerates automatically when not in combat, and even then it only increases very slowly. Make sure you have at least one type of food item equipped in a consumable slot, so you can use it quickly during combat to regain some health – the longer the regeneration effect lasts, the better .

If your vitality gets really low during a fight and you can't seem to recover in time, there's always the option of running away and living to see another day. Unless you're playing at a higher difficulty level, you can also meditate to regain vitality and only need to set the clock to the next hour to fully recharge the meter.

Take Everything (When No One Is Looking)
A vital Witcher 3 tip is to ensure you loot anything you see, as there are all kinds of useful items that can be found in crates and barrels, as well as taken from the bodies of defeated enemies that are marked with an X on your minimap. . Use your Witcher Senses to highlight any nearby items that might be picked up, but be careful when guards are around as they don't like Wizards, so don't take anything while you're in their sight or they of you.

The 'catch all you can' approach particularly applies to alchemy ingredients such as plants and animal parts as there are hundreds of different components to harvest and you will need specific combinations of ingredients to create new alchemy items. The good news is that once you've successfully made a particular item, you no longer need to harvest the ingredients to make more, as you can just use alcohol to keep the stock full.
Be Very Patient, Because The World Is Big
If you want to know why I haven't finished the game until today, this is it: you have to be in the right mood to explore a huge open world map that will give you dozens of missions to complete. If you don't have the patience for this, then you probably won't be able to get very far on this.

You also need to focus, as there will be several missions along the way and if you get them all, you'll end up getting lost in thousands of tasks, and then you'll see something on the map and go investigate and when you notice you're already at the other end of the map and all those missions that were left behind are accumulated in the diary. If you're not in the mood for exploration, then The Witcher 3 could end up becoming that burden you're just playing so you don't leave unfinished.
TOP 10 tips from Geralt
Secret #1: Collect everything that comes your way. Many items can be dismantled and rare resources can be obtained, and a trifle can always be sold or simply thrown away.

Secret #2: Improve your horse. With additional equipment, Roach will be able not only to carry additional equipment, but also to help in battle.

Secret #3: Create an Alkahest. If you have this potion in your inventory, then all elixirs and bombs will be restored automatically. To do this, simply meditate.

Secret #4: Swim. Many treasures are hidden not only in dark caves, but also at the bottom of rivers and lakes.

Secret #5: Use a crossbow. This is the only weapon that deals underwater damage and also helps in the fight against flying monsters.

Secret #6: Keep an eye on the condition of your weapons and armor. At any opportunity, contact the blacksmiths to repair broken uniforms.

Secret #7: Bargain. By completing tasks from the bulletin board, you will have the opportunity to independently set the amount of remuneration. The more developed the Aksy sign is, the more gold you can get for the quest.

Secret #8: Play Gwent. By collecting cards, you will not only diversify the gameplay, but also earn extra money and experience, as well as learn more about the story and plot.

Secret #9: Buy all the recipes. Some recipes for making elixirs can only be found from certain merchants, so it's better to purchase a blueprint first than to search for it all over the map later.

Secret #10: Use the bank. There are 3 currencies in The Witcher 3, but you can only use one. You can exchange any coins for crowns at the bank, which is located in Novigrad.
Witcher signs
As you know, witchers do not own magic, but they can use the power of nature to fight against various monsters. Each sign in the game The Witcher 3 has its own characteristics that allow you to create a unique style of combat.

Aard

Geralt gains the ability to knock down his opponents, as well as restore his energy faster. Each level of the sign enhances the effect and increases the range of the kinetic strike.

The second level of the sign called Sweeping Aard allows you to hit absolutely all opponents around Geralt. To use the second mode of the Aard sign, you must place the Sweeping Aard in the slot with abilities and hold down the Q key during the battle.

You can also increase the effect of Aard or develop the Shock Wave ability, which not only knocks back enemies, but also deals damage to them.

Igni

The most popular magical sign that deals massive damage to opponents by setting them on fire. In addition, Igni lowers enemy armor, which is great for fighting an armored enemy.

While Igni's normal mode simply ignites the target enemy with a flash, the second level - "Fire Stream" - releases a real stream of flame. You just have to point it in the right direction. To use it, move the spell to the cell, and during the battle, hold Q.

If you pump the Pyromaniac ability to the maximum level, then Geralt will be guaranteed to set fire to any enemy.

Irden

This magical sign is most often used against a variety of ghosts, because only in a trap do they take on a bodily form. If you continue to develop the ability, then you can upgrade Yrden to the Magic Trap ability, which is the second mode of this sign. You can use it only after you place the skill in a special cell. As before, you can use it after holding down the Q key.

The peculiarity of the second mode of the Yrden sign is that the trap not only slows down opponents, but also inflicts small periodic damage on them, and also blocks any arrows or crossbow bolts.

Quen

Without this sign, it is difficult to imagine any battle of the witcher, because Quen absorbs a small part of the damage from opponents. The sign is simply indispensable in the battle with strong monsters, because without it you can be killed with just one blow. As soon as the shield absorbs the right amount of damage, it explodes and deals a small amount of damage to the enemies around Geralt, so don't forget to use it in the battle against several opponents with a melee type of attack.

The second mode of the Quen sign not only absorbs damage, but also restores the health of the witcher. The amount of healing depends on the received damage, so it is necessary to use it only in the case when the hero will definitely take damage, because every second of the shield reduces your energy. Activation occurs by holding down the Q key, do not forget to place it in a cell for use.

Aksy

This magic sign will be useful not only during the battle, but also during the normal passage, because the development of this skill adds new phrases to the dialogues and allows you to complete tasks on better conditions.

The first level of Aksia is called "Deception" and forbids enemies to approach Geralt, they simply freeze in place and do not attack the witcher. The second mode of the sign - "Puppet", allows you to lure one of the opponents to your side. Additionally, the target receives a bonus to damage. If you develop Control, then you can subdue two enemies at once.

Remember that in order to use the Puppet, you must place the ability in a special slot. Remember that the second mode of the Axii sign will not work if you have Deception and Puppet in the cells at the same time. This rule also applies to other magical signs.
Combat tactics
If you first met a monster, then information about it immediately appears in your bestiary. Only after reading information about the enemy should you engage in battle. All your battle tactics will depend on the weaknesses and strengths of each specific enemy. Never forget to use rolls. This skill allows you not only to evade most attacks, but also to take a more advantageous position. At the beginning of any battle, it is worth lubricating the blade with a suitable oil and applying the Quen sign on yourself. More information can be found in the bestiary section in the game itself. For example, some monsters have unique abilities and bombs are required to fight them.

Never let yourself be surrounded on all sides. Even weak opponents can inflict a huge amount of damage if they attack in a group. Fortunately, Geralt has several magical signs in his arsenal that allow him to cope even with large groups of opponents. The signs of Aaard and Igni allow you to attack several opponents at the same time. As soon as you see a gap in the enemy line, immediately use a roll to get out of the environment and continue the fight, or retreat, depending on the situation.

Also, keep a full supply of potions and elixirs with you at all times. Some of them will help restore health right in battle, while others will strengthen your attacks. Do not forget that there are specialized elixirs that are effective only against certain monsters. For example, Oriole allows you to get rid of poisoning for a short time, as well as protect Geralt from enemy poison.
Fully explore the White Garden
Everywhere use witcher's flair, complete all quests and all checks - in this case, question marks. Surrounding White Orchard Village are six Places of Power, which are well worth the time and effort, as each gives an extra skill point. Having exhausted all possibilities in the White Orchard, the witcher will be more than ready for the dangers that await him in Velen and Novigrad.
Leave no stone unturned
As in the White Orchard, keep constantly using your witcher's senses to explore every corner. Then hit the road, spotting question marks and destroying all monster nests and bandit camps along the way. Be sure to check the world map often for new points of interest that may appear nearby.
Take all witcher contracts
The notice boards in each area have witcher contracts of different levels posted, and Geralt must take on anything that falls within his level range, as contracts are the witcher's livelihood. It is important to look at the level of the contract, because when Geralt is much higher than the intended level for the quest, the experience gained is minimal.
Liberation of territories - the witcher's path to success
Liberation of territories brings the most experience, not counting quests and contracts. In addition to payment, the Witchers for this service have access to merchants in the newly liberated territory. Finding captured lands on a war-torn continent is not difficult if the witcher sets himself the task of exploring uncharted places (also known as question marks).
Enemy level scaling
Leveling up enemies is an easy way to take your experience to the next level. It can be enabled in the gameplay settings to level up lower level enemies to Geralt's level, giving him more experience for each kill. Upscaling enemies also makes it more profitable to return to lower level areas to complete quests in order to squeeze the most experience out of the open map.
Fun and Games

Leveling skills through additional activities

Even a witcher with advanced mutations like Geralt needs a break from time to time to enjoy more leisurely pursuits, but that doesn't mean they can afford to skip leveling entirely. The Witcher should always keep his senses on his toes, but if he needs to rest, taking part in horse racing and fistfights is a good alternative for gaining XP. Geralt should definitely step into the ring to test his mettle in the Fists of Fury competition if he hasn't already.

How about a party in Gwent?

Geralt can even gain a bit of extra experience when he wins a round of Gwent, but not all matches will help him level up. Only quest-related parties in Gwent will award experience, such as playing with innkeepers, fighting regional champions, or participating in the High Stakes Gwent tournament at The Passiflora.
