Worm is an addictive, fairly dark and finished (2011-2013) web serial about traumatized people with superpowers doing the wrong things for the right reasons. Imagine on the worst day of your life, you suddenly gained paranormal powers. Does it solve your problems? How will you use it? That's what Worm is about: A story about fundamentally damaged people being granted the ability to change things at a greater scale.

The story revolves around Taylor Hebert, who we first meet as a troubled teenager suffering high school bullying. Taylor has the ability to control bugs, and her ingenious exploitation of this power eventually attracts the attention of capes on both sides of the law. Cape being a term used to describe parahumans, humans with paranormal abilities-- superpowers.

Around the time that Taylor joins the cape scene, a local group of supervillains start trying to make a name for themselves. They use their unconventional powers to go head to head with both the local superheroes and vicious supervillain gangs.

If Wonder Woman, Superman, and Batman all decided to work for the United States government to help keep the peace, you'd probably end up with something like Worm's Triumvirate. The Triumvirate are the flagship heroes of the Protectorate, the North American organization of superheroes that answer to the U.S. government. Each major city has its own branch of the Protectorate, which serves to both protect the city from supervillains and train the next generation of young heroes through the Wards program.

The government oversees the Protectorate through the Parahuman Response Team (PRT) to provide a way for regular people to keep superpowers in check. Each Protectorate team is held accountable to a PRT director. In addition, the PRT specializes as Worm's "SWAT" team trained to take down parahumans.
